King James Version
22. And Laban was told on the third day that Jacob had fled. 23. Then he took his brethren with him and pursued him for seven days’ journey, and he overtook him in the mountains of Gilead. 24. But God had come to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said to him, "Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad." 25. So Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mountains, and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mountains of Gilead. 26. And Laban said to Jacob: "What have you done, that you have stolen away unknown to me, and carried away my daughters like captives taken with the sword? 27. "Why did you flee away secretly, and steal away from me, and not tell me; for I might have sent you away with joy and songs, with timbrel and harp? 28. "And you did not allow me to kiss my sons and my daughters. Now you have done foolishly in so doing. 29. "It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.’ 30. "And now you have surely gone because you greatly long for your father’s house, but why did you steal my gods?" 31. Then Jacob answered and said to Laban, "Because I was afraid, for I said, ‘Perhaps you would take your daughters from me by force.’ 32. "With whomever you find your gods, do not let him live. In the presence of our brethren, identify what I have of yours and take it with you." For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them. 33. And Laban went into Jacob’s tent, into Leah’s tent, and into the two maids’ tents, but he did not find them . Then he went out of Leah’s tent and entered Rachel’s tent. 34. Now Rachel had taken the household idols, put them in the camel’s saddle, and sat on them. And Laban searched all about the tent but did not find them . 35. And she said to her father, "Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise before you, for the manner of women is with me." And he searched but did not find the household idols. 36. Then Jacob was angry and rebuked Laban, and Jacob answered and said to Laban: "What is my trespass? What is my sin, that you have so hotly pursued me? 37. "Although you have searched all my things, what part of your household things have you found? Set it here before my brethren and your brethren, that they may judge between us both! 38. "These twenty years I have been with you; your ewes and your female goats have not miscarried their young, and I have not eaten the rams of your flock. 39. "That which was torn by beasts I did not bring to you; I bore the loss of it. You required it from my hand, whether stolen by day or stolen by night. 40. " There I was! In the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night, and my sleep departed from my eyes. 41. "Thus I have been in your house twenty years; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times. 42. "Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty–handed. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night." 43. And Laban answered and said to Jacob, " These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and this flock is my flock; all that you see is mine. But what can I do this day to these my daughters or to their children whom they have borne? 44. "Now therefore, come, let us make a covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between you and me." 45. So Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar. 46. Then Jacob said to his brethren, "Gather stones." And they took stones and made a heap, and they ate there on the heap. 47. Laban called it Jegar Sahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed. 48. And Laban said, "This heap is a witness between you and me this day." Therefore its name was called Galeed, 49. also Mizpah, because he said, "May the LORD watch between you and me when we are absent one from another. 50. "If you afflict my daughters, or if you take other wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us––see, God is witness between you and me!" 51. Then Laban said to Jacob, "Here is this heap and here is this pillar, which I have placed between you and me. 52. "This heap is a witness, and this pillar is a witness, that I will not pass beyond this heap to you, and you will not pass beyond this heap and this pillar to me, for harm. 53. "The God of Abraham, the God of Nahor, and the God of their father judge between us." And Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac. 54. Then Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain, and called his brethren to eat bread. And they ate bread and stayed all night on the mountain. 55. And early in the morning Laban arose, and kissed his sons and daughters and blessed them. Then Laban departed and returned to his place.
1. On that day King Ahasuerus gave Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her. 2. So the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai; and Esther appointed Mordecai over the house of Haman. 3. Now Esther spoke again to the king, fell down at his feet, and implored him with tears to counteract the evil of Haman the Agagite, and the scheme which he had devised against the Jews. 4. And the king held out the golden scepter toward Esther. So Esther arose and stood before the king, 5. and said, "If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight and the thing seems right to the king and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to annihilate the Jews who are in all the king’s provinces. 6. "For how can I endure to see the evil that will come to my people? Or how can I endure to see the destruction of my countrymen?" 7. Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and Mordecai the Jew, "Indeed, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows because he tried to lay his hand on the Jews. 8. "You yourselves write a decree concerning the Jews, as you please, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s signet ring; for whatever is written in the king’s name and sealed with the king’s signet ring no one can revoke." 9. So the king’s scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty–third day ; and it was written, according to all that Mordecai commanded, to the Jews, the satraps, the governors, and the princes of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, one hundred and twenty–seven provinces in all , to every province in its own script, to every people in their own language, and to the Jews in their own script and language. 10. And he wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, sealed it with the king’s signet ring, and sent letters by couriers on horseback, riding on royal horses bred from swift steeds. 11. By these letters the king permitted the Jews who were in every city to gather together and protect their lives––to destroy, kill, and annihilate all the forces of any people or province that would assault them, both little children and women, and to plunder their possessions, 12. on one day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar. 13. A copy of the document was to be issued as a decree in every province and published for all people, so that the Jews would be ready on that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. 14. The couriers who rode on royal horses went out, hastened and pressed on by the king’s command. And the decree was issued in Shushan the citadel. 15. So Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, with a great crown of gold and a garment of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. 16. The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor. 17. And in every province and city, wherever the king’s command and decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a holiday. Then many of the people of the land became Jews, because fear of the Jews fell upon them.
1. Now in the twelfth month, that is , the month of Adar, on the thirteenth day, the time came for the king’s command and his decree to be executed. On the day that the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, the opposite occurred, in that the Jews themselves overpowered those who hated them. 2. The Jews gathered together in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus to lay hands on those who sought their harm. And no one could withstand them, because fear of them fell upon all people. 3. And all the officials of the provinces, the satraps, the governors, and all those doing the king’s work, helped the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them. 4. For Mordecai was great in the king’s palace, and his fame spread throughout all the provinces; for this man Mordecai became increasingly prominent. 5. Thus the Jews defeated all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, with slaughter and destruction, and did what they pleased with those who hated them. 6. And in Shushan the citadel the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men. 7. Also Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, 8. Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, 9. Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vajezatha–– 10. the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews––they killed; but they did not lay a hand on the plunder. 11. On that day the number of those who were killed in Shushan the citadel was brought to the king. 12. And the king said to Queen Esther, "The Jews have killed and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the citadel, and the ten sons of Haman. What have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces? Now what is your petition? It shall be granted to you. Or what is your further request? It shall be done." 13. Then Esther said, "If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do again tomorrow according to today’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows." 14. So the king commanded this to be done; the decree was issued in Shushan, and they hanged Haman’s ten sons. 15. And the Jews who were in Shushan gathered together again on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and killed three hundred men at Shushan; but they did not lay a hand on the plunder. 16. The remainder of the Jews in the king’s provinces gathered together and protected their lives, had rest from their enemies, and killed seventy–five thousand of their enemies; but they did not lay a hand on the plunder. 17. This was on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar. And on the fourteenth day of the month they rested and made it a day of feasting and gladness. 18. But the Jews who were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day , as well as on the fourteenth; and on the fifteenth of the month they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness. 19. Therefore the Jews of the villages who dwelt in the unwalled towns celebrated the fourteenth day of the month of Adar with gladness and feasting, as a holiday, and for sending presents to one another.
21. Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon–possessed." 23. But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, "Send her away, for she cries out after us." 24. But He answered and said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 25. Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, help me!" 26. But He answered and said, "It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs." 27. And she said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table." 28. Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that very hour. 29. Jesus departed from there, skirted the Sea of Galilee, and went up on the mountain and sat down there. 30. Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them. 31. So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel. 32. Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way." 33. Then His disciples said to Him, "Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to fill such a great multitude?" 34. Jesus said to them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven, and a few little fish." 35. So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. 36. And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude. 37. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left. 38. Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children. 39. And He sent away the multitude, got into the boat, and came to the region of Magdala.
