KEJ 4-5
EZR 3
MAT 3

KEJ 4

1.   Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have acquired a man from the LORD." 2.   Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3.   And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. 4.   Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, 5.   but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6.   So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7.   "If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it." 8.   Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. 9.   Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?" 10.   And He said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground. 11.   "So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12.   "When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth." 13.   And Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is greater than I can bear! 14.   "Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me." 15.   And the LORD said to him, "Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him. 16.   Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. 17.   And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son––Enoch. 18.   To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech. 19.   Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. 20.   And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21.   His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. 22.   And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal–Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal–Cain was Naamah. 23.   Then Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech! For I have killed a man for wounding me, Even a young man for hurting me. 24.   If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, Then Lamech seventy–sevenfold." 25.   And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, "For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed." 26.   And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the LORD.

KEJ 5

1.   This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. 2.   He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. 3.   And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. 4.   After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. 5.   So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died. 6.   Seth lived one hundred and five years, and begot Enosh. 7.   After he begot Enosh, Seth lived eight hundred and seven years, and had sons and daughters. 8.   So all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years; and he died. 9.   Enosh lived ninety years, and begot Cainan. 10.   After he begot Cainan, Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and had sons and daughters. 11.   So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years; and he died. 12.   Cainan lived seventy years, and begot Mahalalel. 13.   After he begot Mahalalel, Cainan lived eight hundred and forty years, and had sons and daughters. 14.   So all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died. 15.   Mahalalel lived sixty–five years, and begot Jared. 16.   After he begot Jared, Mahalalel lived eight hundred and thirty years, and had sons and daughters. 17.   So all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety–five years; and he died. 18.   Jared lived one hundred and sixty–two years, and begot Enoch. 19.   After he begot Enoch, Jared lived eight hundred years, and had sons and daughters. 20.   So all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty–two years; and he died. 21.   Enoch lived sixty–five years, and begot Methuselah. 22.   After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. 23.   So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty–five years. 24.   And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. 25.   Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty–seven years, and begot Lamech. 26.   After he begot Lamech, Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty–two years, and had sons and daughters. 27.   So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty–nine years; and he died. 28.   Lamech lived one hundred and eighty–two years, and had a son. 29.   And he called his name Noah, saying, "This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD has cursed." 30.   After he begot Noah, Lamech lived five hundred and ninety–five years, and had sons and daughters. 31.   So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy–seven years; and he died. 32.   And Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

EZR 3

1.   And when the seventh month had come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered together as one man to Jerusalem. 2.   Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brethren, arose and built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God. 3.   Though fear had come upon them because of the people of those countries, they set the altar on its bases; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD, both the morning and evening burnt offerings. 4.   They also kept the Feast of Tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings in the number required by ordinance for each day. 5.   Afterwards they offered the regular burnt offering, and those for New Moons and for all the appointed feasts of the LORD that were consecrated, and those of everyone who willingly offered a freewill offering to the LORD. 6.   From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, although the foundation of the temple of the LORD had not been laid. 7.   They also gave money to the masons and the carpenters, and food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre to bring cedar logs from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the permission which they had from Cyrus king of Persia. 8.   Now in the second month of the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the rest of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all those who had come out of the captivity to Jerusalem, began work and appointed the Levites from twenty years old and above to oversee the work of the house of the LORD. 9.   Then Jeshua with his sons and brothers, Kadmiel with his sons, and the sons of Judah, arose as one to oversee those working on the house of God: the sons of Henadad with their sons and their brethren the Levites. 10.   When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD, according to the ordinance of David king of Israel. 11.   And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the LORD: "For He is good, For His mercy endures forever toward Israel." Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid. 12.   But many of the priests and Levites and heads of the fathers’ houses , old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this temple was laid before their eyes. Yet many shouted aloud for joy, 13.   so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard afar off.

MAT 3

1.   In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2.   and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" 3.   For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the LORD; Make His paths straight.’" 4.   And John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5.   Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him 6.   and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. 7.   But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8.   "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9.   "and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10.   "And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11.   "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12.   "His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." 13.   Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14.   And John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?" 15.   But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him. 16.   When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17.   And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
