1. Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2. "This shall be the law of the leper for the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought to the priest. 3. "And the priest shall go out of the camp, and the priest shall examine him ; and indeed, if the leprosy is healed in the leper, 4. "then the priest shall command to take for him who is to be cleansed two living and clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet, and hyssop. 5. "And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water. 6. "As for the living bird, he shall take it, the cedar wood and the scarlet and the hyssop, and dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water. 7. "And he shall sprinkle it seven times on him who is to be cleansed from the leprosy, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose in the open field. 8. "He who is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean. After that he shall come into the camp, and shall stay outside his tent seven days. 9. "But on the seventh day he shall shave all the hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows––all his hair he shall shave off. He shall wash his clothes and wash his body in water, and he shall be clean. 10. "And on the eighth day he shall take two male lambs without blemish, one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish, three–tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering, and one log of oil. 11. "Then the priest who makes him clean shall present the man who is to be made clean, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 12. "And the priest shall take one male lamb and offer it as a trespass offering, and the log of oil, and wave them as a wave offering before the LORD. 13. "Then he shall kill the lamb in the place where he kills the sin offering and the burnt offering, in a holy place; for as the sin offering is the priest’s, so is the trespass offering. It is most holy. 14. "The priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. 15. "And the priest shall take some of the log of oil, and pour it into the palm of his own left hand. 16. "Then the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is in his left hand, and shall sprinkle some of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD. 17. "And of the rest of the oil in his hand, the priest shall put some on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, on the blood of the trespass offering. 18. "The rest of the oil that is in the priest’s hand he shall put on the head of him who is to be cleansed. So the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD. 19. "Then the priest shall offer the sin offering, and make atonement for him who is to be cleansed from his uncleanness. Afterward he shall kill the burnt offering. 20. "And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. So the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be clean. 21. "But if he is poor and cannot afford it, then he shall take one male lamb as a trespass offering to be waved, to make atonement for him, one–tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering, a log of oil, 22. "and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, such as he is able to afford: one shall be a sin offering and the other a burnt offering. 23. "He shall bring them to the priest on the eighth day for his cleansing, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, before the LORD. 24. "And the priest shall take the lamb of the trespass offering and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them as a wave offering before the LORD. 25. "Then he shall kill the lamb of the trespass offering, and the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering and put it on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. 26. "And the priest shall pour some of the oil into the palm of his own left hand. 27. "Then the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD. 28. "And the priest shall put some of the oil that is in his hand on the tip of the right ear of him who is to be cleansed, on the thumb of the right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, on the place of the blood of the trespass offering. 29. "The rest of the oil that is in the priest’s hand he shall put on the head of him who is to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD. 30. "And he shall offer one of the turtledoves or young pigeons, such as he can afford–– 31. "such as he is able to afford, the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, with the grain offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him who is to be cleansed before the LORD. 32. "This is the law for one who had a leprous sore, who cannot afford the usual cleansing." 33. And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying: 34. "When you have come into the land of Canaan, which I give you as a possession, and I put the leprous plague in a house in the land of your possession, 35. "and he who owns the house comes and tells the priest, saying, ‘It seems to me that there is some plague in the house,’ 36. "then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest goes into it to examine the plague, that all that is in the house may not be made unclean; and afterward the priest shall go in to examine the house. 37. "And he shall examine the plague; and indeed if the plague is on the walls of the house with ingrained streaks, greenish or reddish, which appear to be deep in the wall, 38. "then the priest shall go out of the house, to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days. 39. "And the priest shall come again on the seventh day and look; and indeed if the plague has spread on the walls of the house, 40. "then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which is the plague, and they shall cast them into an unclean place outside the city. 41. "And he shall cause the house to be scraped inside, all around, and the dust that they scrape off they shall pour out in an unclean place outside the city. 42. "Then they shall take other stones and put them in the place of those stones, and he shall take other mortar and plaster the house. 43. "Now if the plague comes back and breaks out in the house, after he has taken away the stones, after he has scraped the house, and after it is plastered, 44. "then the priest shall come and look; and indeed if the plague has spread in the house, it is an active leprosy in the house. It is unclean. 45. "And he shall break down the house, its stones, its timber, and all the plaster of the house, and he shall carry them outside the city to an unclean place. 46. "Moreover he who goes into the house at all while it is shut up shall be unclean until evening. 47. "And he who lies down in the house shall wash his clothes, and he who eats in the house shall wash his clothes. 48. "But if the priest comes in and examines it , and indeed the plague has not spread in the house after the house was plastered, then the priest shall pronounce the house clean, because the plague is healed. 49. "And he shall take, to cleanse the house, two birds, cedar wood, scarlet, and hyssop. 50. "Then he shall kill one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water; 51. "and he shall take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times. 52. "And he shall cleanse the house with the blood of the bird and the running water and the living bird, with the cedar wood, the hyssop, and the scarlet. 53. "Then he shall let the living bird loose outside the city in the open field, and make atonement for the house, and it shall be clean. 54. "This is the law for any leprous sore and scale, 55. "for the leprosy of a garment and of a house, 56. "for a swelling and a scab and a bright spot, 57. "to teach when it is unclean and when it is clean. This is the law of leprosy."
1. <> Give ear, O my people, to my law; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. 0. 2I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, 3. Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. 4. We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. 5. For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children; 6. That the generation to come might know them , The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children, 7. That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments; 8. And may not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not set its heart aright, And whose spirit was not faithful to God. 9. The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, Turned back in the day of battle. 10. They did not keep the covenant of God; They refused to walk in His law, 11. And forgot His works And His wonders that He had shown them. 12. Marvelous things He did in the sight of their fathers, In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. 13. He divided the sea and caused them to pass through; And He made the waters stand up like a heap. 14. In the daytime also He led them with the cloud, And all the night with a light of fire. 15. He split the rocks in the wilderness, And gave them drink in abundance like the depths. 16. He also brought streams out of the rock, And caused waters to run down like rivers. 17. But they sinned even more against Him By rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness. 18. And they tested God in their heart By asking for the food of their fancy. 19. Yes, they spoke against God: They said, "Can God prepare a table in the wilderness? 20. Behold, He struck the rock, So that the waters gushed out, And the streams overflowed. Can He give bread also? Can He provide meat for His people?" 21. Therefore the LORD heard this and was furious; So a fire was kindled against Jacob, And anger also came up against Israel, 22. Because they did not believe in God, And did not trust in His salvation. 23. Yet He had commanded the clouds above, And opened the doors of heaven, 24. Had rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven. 25. Men ate angels’ food; He sent them food to the full. 26. He caused an east wind to blow in the heavens; And by His power He brought in the south wind. 27. He also rained meat on them like the dust, Feathered fowl like the sand of the seas; 28. And He let them fall in the midst of their camp, All around their dwellings. 29. So they ate and were well filled, For He gave them their own desire. 30. They were not deprived of their craving; But while their food was still in their mouths, 31. The wrath of God came against them, And slew the stoutest of them, And struck down the choice men of Israel. 32. In spite of this they still sinned, And did not believe in His wondrous works. 33. Therefore their days He consumed in futility, And their years in fear. 34. When He slew them, then they sought Him; And they returned and sought earnestly for God. 35. Then they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their Redeemer. 36. Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouth, And they lied to Him with their tongue; 37. For their heart was not steadfast with Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant. 38. But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, And did not destroy them . Yes, many a time He turned His anger away, And did not stir up all His wrath; 39. For He remembered that they were but flesh, A breath that passes away and does not come again. 40. How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, And grieved Him in the desert! 41. Yes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel. 42. They did not remember His power: The day when He redeemed them from the enemy, 43. When He worked His signs in Egypt, And His wonders in the field of Zoan; 44. Turned their rivers into blood, And their streams, that they could not drink. 45. He sent swarms of flies among them, which devoured them, And frogs, which destroyed them. 46. He also gave their crops to the caterpillar, And their labor to the locust. 47. He destroyed their vines with hail, And their sycamore trees with frost. 48. He also gave up their cattle to the hail, And their flocks to fiery lightning. 49. He cast on them the fierceness of His anger, Wrath, indignation, and trouble, By sending angels of destruction among them . 50. He made a path for His anger; He did not spare their soul from death, But gave their life over to the plague, 51. And destroyed all the firstborn in Egypt, The first of their strength in the tents of Ham. 52. But He made His own people go forth like sheep, And guided them in the wilderness like a flock; 53. And He led them on safely, so that they did not fear; But the sea overwhelmed their enemies. 54. And He brought them to His holy border, This mountain which His right hand had acquired. 55. He also drove out the nations before them, Allotted them an inheritance by survey, And made the tribes of Israel dwell in their tents. 56. Yet they tested and provoked the Most High God, And did not keep His testimonies, 57. But turned back and acted unfaithfully like their fathers; They were turned aside like a deceitful bow. 58. For they provoked Him to anger with their high places, And moved Him to jealousy with their carved images. 59. When God heard this , He was furious, And greatly abhorred Israel, 60. So that He forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent He had placed among men, 61. And delivered His strength into captivity, And His glory into the enemy’s hand. 62. He also gave His people over to the sword, And was furious with His inheritance. 63. The fire consumed their young men, And their maidens were not given in marriage. 64. Their priests fell by the sword, And their widows made no lamentation. 65. Then the Lord awoke as from sleep, Like a mighty man who shouts because of wine. 66. And He beat back His enemies; He put them to a perpetual reproach. 67. Moreover He rejected the tent of Joseph, And did not choose the tribe of Ephraim, 68. But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which He loved. 69. And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever. 70. He also chose David His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds; 71. From following the ewes that had young He brought him, To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance. 72. So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
1. And when it was decided that we should sail to Italy, they delivered Paul and some other prisoners to one named Julius, a centurion of the Augustan Regiment. 2. So, entering a ship of Adramyttium, we put to sea, meaning to sail along the coasts of Asia. Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, was with us. 3. And the next day we landed at Sidon. And Julius treated Paul kindly and gave him liberty to go to his friends and receive care. 4. When we had put to sea from there, we sailed under the shelter of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary. 5. And when we had sailed over the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia. 6. There the centurion found an Alexandrian ship sailing to Italy, and he put us on board. 7. When we had sailed slowly many days, and arrived with difficulty off Cnidus, the wind not permitting us to proceed, we sailed under the shelter of Crete off Salmone. 8. Passing it with difficulty, we came to a place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea. 9. Now when much time had been spent, and sailing was now dangerous because the Fast was already over, Paul advised them, 10. saying, "Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship, but also our lives." 11. Nevertheless the centurion was more persuaded by the helmsman and the owner of the ship than by the things spoken by Paul. 12. And because the harbor was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised to set sail from there also, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete opening toward the southwest and northwest, and winter there . 13. When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their desire, putting out to sea, they sailed close by Crete. 14. But not long after, a tempestuous head wind arose, called Euroclydon. 15. So when the ship was caught, and could not head into the wind, we let her drive. 16. And running under the shelter of an island called Clauda, we secured the skiff with difficulty. 17. When they had taken it on board, they used cables to undergird the ship; and fearing lest they should run aground on the Syrtis Sands , they struck sail and so were driven. 18. And because we were exceedingly tempest–tossed, the next day they lightened the ship. 19. On the third day we threw the ship’s tackle overboard with our own hands. 20. Now when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small tempest beat on us , all hope that we would be saved was finally given up. 21. But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said, "Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss. 22. "And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. 23. "For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, 24. "saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ 25. "Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me. 26. "However, we must run aground on a certain island."
