KIS 27:27-44

IM 15

1.   And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, 2.   "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When any man has a discharge from his body, his discharge is unclean. 3.   ‘And this shall be his uncleanness in regard to his discharge––whether his body runs with his discharge, or his body is stopped up by his discharge, it is his uncleanness. 4.   ‘Every bed is unclean on which he who has the discharge lies, and everything on which he sits shall be unclean. 5.   ‘And whoever touches his bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 6.   ‘He who sits on anything on which he who has the discharge sat shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 7.   ‘And he who touches the body of him who has the discharge shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 8.   ‘If he who has the discharge spits on him who is clean, then he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 9.   ‘Any saddle on which he who has the discharge rides shall be unclean. 10.   ‘Whoever touches anything that was under him shall be unclean until evening. He who carries any of those things shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 11.   ‘And whomever the one who has the discharge touches, and has not rinsed his hands in water, he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 12.   ‘The vessel of earth that he who has the discharge touches shall be broken, and every vessel of wood shall be rinsed in water. 13.   ‘And when he who has a discharge is cleansed of his discharge, then he shall count for himself seven days for his cleansing, wash his clothes, and bathe his body in running water; then he shall be clean. 14.   ‘On the eighth day he shall take for himself two turtledoves or two young pigeons, and come before the LORD, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and give them to the priest. 15.   ‘Then the priest shall offer them, the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD because of his discharge. 16.   ‘If any man has an emission of semen, then he shall wash all his body in water, and be unclean until evening. 17.   ‘And any garment and any leather on which there is semen, it shall be washed with water, and be unclean until evening. 18.   ‘Also, when a woman lies with a man, and there is an emission of semen, they shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 19.   ‘If a woman has a discharge, and the discharge from her body is blood, she shall be set apart seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. 20.   ‘Everything that she lies on during her impurity shall be unclean; also everything that she sits on shall be unclean. 21.   ‘Whoever touches her bed shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 22.   ‘And whoever touches anything that she sat on shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 23.   ‘If anything is on her bed or on anything on which she sits, when he touches it, he shall be unclean until evening. 24.   ‘And if any man lies with her at all, so that her impurity is on him, he shall be unclean seven days; and every bed on which he lies shall be unclean. 25.   ‘If a woman has a discharge of blood for many days, other than at the time of her customary impurity, or if it runs beyond her usual time of impurity, all the days of her unclean discharge shall be as the days of her customary impurity. She shall be unclean. 26.   ‘Every bed on which she lies all the days of her discharge shall be to her as the bed of her impurity; and whatever she sits on shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her impurity. 27.   ‘Whoever touches those things shall be unclean; he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening. 28.   ‘But if she is cleansed of her discharge, then she shall count for herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean. 29.   ‘And on the eighth day she shall take for herself two turtledoves or two young pigeons, and bring them to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 30.   ‘Then the priest shall offer the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, and the priest shall make atonement for her before the LORD for the discharge of her uncleanness. 31.   ‘Thus you shall separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness, lest they die in their uncleanness when they defile My tabernacle that is among them. 32.   ‘This is the law for one who has a discharge, and for him who emits semen and is unclean thereby, 33.   ‘and for her who is indisposed because of her customary impurity, and for one who has a discharge, either man or woman, and for him who lies with her who is unclean.’"

MZM 79

1.   <> O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; Your holy temple they have defiled; They have laid Jerusalem in heaps. 0.   2The dead bodies of Your servants They have given as food for the birds of the heavens, The flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth. 3.   Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem, And there was no one to bury them . 4.   We have become a reproach to our neighbors, A scorn and derision to those who are around us. 5.   How long, LORD? Will You be angry forever? Will Your jealousy burn like fire? 6.   Pour out Your wrath on the nations that do not know You, And on the kingdoms that do not call on Your name. 7.   For they have devoured Jacob, And laid waste his dwelling place. 8.   Oh, do not remember former iniquities against us! Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us, For we have been brought very low. 9.   Help us, O God of our salvation, For the glory of Your name; And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins, For Your name’s sake! 10.   Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let there be known among the nations in our sight The avenging of the blood of Your servants which has been shed. 11.   Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; According to the greatness of Your power Preserve those who are appointed to die; 12.   And return to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom Their reproach with which they have reproached You, O Lord. 13.   So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, Will give You thanks forever; We will show forth Your praise to all generations.

MZM 80

1.   <> Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth! 2.   Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh, Stir up Your strength, And come and save us! 3.   Restore us, O God; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved! 4.   O LORD God of hosts, How long will You be angry Against the prayer of Your people? 5.   You have fed them with the bread of tears, And given them tears to drink in great measure. 6.   You have made us a strife to our neighbors, And our enemies laugh among themselves. 7.   Restore us, O God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved! 8.   You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations, and planted it. 9.   You prepared room for it, And caused it to take deep root, And it filled the land. 10.   The hills were covered with its shadow, And the mighty cedars with its boughs. 11.   She sent out her boughs to the Sea, And her branches to the River. 12.   Why have You broken down her hedges, So that all who pass by the way pluck her fruit ? 13.   The boar out of the woods uproots it, And the wild beast of the field devours it. 14.   Return, we beseech You, O God of hosts; Look down from heaven and see, And visit this vine 15.   And the vineyard which Your right hand has planted, And the branch that You made strong for Yourself. 16.   It is burned with fire, it is cut down; They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance. 17.   Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself. 18.   Then we will not turn back from You; Revive us, and we will call upon Your name. 19.   Restore us, O LORD God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!

KIS 27 27-44

27.   Now when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven up and down in the Adriatic Sea , about midnight the sailors sensed that they were drawing near some land. 28.   And they took soundings and found it to be twenty fathoms; and when they had gone a little farther, they took soundings again and found it to be fifteen fathoms. 29.   Then, fearing lest we should run aground on the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern, and prayed for day to come. 30.   And as the sailors were seeking to escape from the ship, when they had let down the skiff into the sea, under pretense of putting out anchors from the prow, 31.   Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved." 32.   Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the skiff and let it fall off. 33.   And as day was about to dawn, Paul implored them all to take food, saying, "Today is the fourteenth day you have waited and continued without food, and eaten nothing. 34.   "Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you." 35.   And when he had said these things, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all; and when he had broken it he began to eat. 36.   Then they were all encouraged, and also took food themselves. 37.   And in all we were two hundred and seventy–six persons on the ship. 38.   So when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship and threw out the wheat into the sea. 39.   When it was day, they did not recognize the land; but they observed a bay with a beach, onto which they planned to run the ship if possible. 40.   And they let go the anchors and left them in the sea, meanwhile loosing the rudder ropes; and they hoisted the mainsail to the wind and made for shore. 41.   But striking a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the prow stuck fast and remained immovable, but the stern was being broken up by the violence of the waves. 42.   And the soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim away and escape. 43.   But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, kept them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should jump overboard first and get to land, 44.   and the rest, some on boards and some on parts of the ship. And so it was that they all escaped safely to land.
