King James Version

UL 20
YES 1
MRK 6:1-29

UL 20

1.   "When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. 2.   "So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people. 3.   "And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them; 4.   ‘for the LORD your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’ 5.   "Then the officers shall speak to the people, saying: ‘What man is there who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it. 6.   ‘Also what man is there who has planted a vineyard and has not eaten of it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man eat of it. 7.   ‘And what man is there who is betrothed to a woman and has not married her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man marry her.’ 8.   "The officers shall speak further to the people, and say, ‘What man is there who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest the heart of his brethren faint like his heart.’ 9.   "And so it shall be, when the officers have finished speaking to the people, that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people. 10.   "When you go near a city to fight against it, then proclaim an offer of peace to it. 11.   "And it shall be that if they accept your offer of peace, and open to you, then all the people who are found in it shall be placed under tribute to you, and serve you. 12.   "Now if the city will not make peace with you, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it. 13.   "And when the LORD your God delivers it into your hands, you shall strike every male in it with the edge of the sword. 14.   "But the women, the little ones, the livestock, and all that is in the city, all its spoil, you shall plunder for yourself; and you shall eat the enemies’ plunder which the LORD your God gives you. 15.   "Thus you shall do to all the cities which are very far from you, which are not of the cities of these nations. 16.   "But of the cities of these peoples which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance, you shall let nothing that breathes remain alive, 17.   "but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, just as the LORD your God has commanded you, 18.   "lest they teach you to do according to all their abominations which they have done for their gods, and you sin against the LORD your God. 19.   "When you besiege a city for a long time, while making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them; if you can eat of them, do not cut them down to use in the siege, for the tree of the field is man’s food . 20.   "Only the trees which you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, to build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued.

YES 1

1.   The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. 2.   Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me; 3.   The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master’s crib; But Israel does not know, My people do not consider." 4.   Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the LORD, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward. 5.   Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints. 6.   From the sole of the foot even to the head, There is no soundness in it, But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; They have not been closed or bound up, Or soothed with ointment. 7.   Your country is desolate, Your cities are burned with fire; Strangers devour your land in your presence; And it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers. 8.   So the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, As a hut in a garden of cucumbers, As a besieged city. 9.   Unless the LORD of hosts Had left to us a very small remnant, We would have become like Sodom, We would have been made like Gomorrah. 10.   Hear the word of the LORD, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah: 11.   "To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" Says the LORD. "I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats. 12.   "When you come to appear before Me, Who has required this from your hand, To trample My courts? 13.   Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies––I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. 14.   Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them . 15.   When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; Even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. 16.   "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, 17.   Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. 18.   "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. 19.   If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land; 20.   But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword"; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken. 21.   How the faithful city has become a harlot! It was full of justice; Righteousness lodged in it, But now murderers. 22.   Your silver has become dross, Your wine mixed with water. 23.   Your princes are rebellious, And companions of thieves; Everyone loves bribes, And follows after rewards. They do not defend the fatherless, Nor does the cause of the widow come before them. 24.   Therefore the Lord says, The LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, "Ah, I will rid Myself of My adversaries, And take vengeance on My enemies. 25.   I will turn My hand against you, And thoroughly purge away your dross, And take away all your alloy. 26.   I will restore your judges as at the first, And your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city." 27.   Zion shall be redeemed with justice, And her penitents with righteousness. 28.   The destruction of transgressors and of sinners shall be together, And those who forsake the LORD shall be consumed. 29.   For they shall be ashamed of the terebinth trees Which you have desired; And you shall be embarrassed because of the gardens Which you have chosen. 30.   For you shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fades, And as a garden that has no water. 31.   The strong shall be as tinder, And the work of it as a spark; Both will burn together, And no one shall quench them .

MRK 6 1-29

1.   Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2.   And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, "Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! 3.   "Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?" And they were offended at Him. 4.   But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house." 5.   Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them . 6.   And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching. 7.   And He called the twelve to Himself , and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. 8.   He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff––no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts–– 9.   but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics. 10.   Also He said to them, "In whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you depart from that place. 11.   "And whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!" 12.   So they went out and preached that people should repent. 13.   And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them . 14.   Now King Herod heard of Him , for His name had become well known. And he said, "John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him." 15.   Others said, "It is Elijah." And others said, "It is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets." 16.   But when Herod heard, he said, "This is John, whom I beheaded; he has been raised from the dead!" 17.   For Herod himself had sent and laid hold of John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had married her. 18.   For John had said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife." 19.   Therefore Herodias held it against him and wanted to kill him, but she could not; 20.   for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. 21.   Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee. 22.   And when Herodias’ daughter herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you." 23.   He also swore to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom." 24.   So she went out and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Baptist!" 25.   Immediately she came in with haste to the king and asked, saying, "I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter." 26.   And the king was exceedingly sorry; yet , because of the oaths and because of those who sat with him, he did not want to refuse her. 27.   Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in prison, 28.   brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29.   When his disciples heard of it , they came and took away his corpse and laid it in a tomb.
