1SAM 23
YER 22:9-30
LUK 8:26-56

1SAM 23

1.   Then they told David, saying, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are robbing the threshing floors." 2.   Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And the LORD said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah." 3.   But David’s men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?" 4.   Then David inquired of the LORD once again. And the LORD answered him and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah. For I will deliver the Philistines into your hand." 5.   And David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines, struck them with a mighty blow, and took away their livestock. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah. 6.   Now it happened, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, that he went down with an ephod in his hand. 7.   And Saul was told that David had gone to Keilah. So Saul said, "God has delivered him into my hand, for he has shut himself in by entering a town that has gates and bars." 8.   Then Saul called all the people together for war, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men. 9.   When David knew that Saul plotted evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest, "Bring the ephod here." 10.   Then David said, "O LORD God of Israel, Your servant has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah to destroy the city for my sake. 11.   "Will the men of Keilah deliver me into his hand? Will Saul come down, as Your servant has heard? O LORD God of Israel, I pray, tell Your servant." And the LORD said, "He will come down." 12.   Then David said, "Will the men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?" And the LORD said, "They will deliver you ." 13.   So David and his men, about six hundred, arose and departed from Keilah and went wherever they could go. Then it was told Saul that David had escaped from Keilah; so he halted the expedition. 14.   And David stayed in strongholds in the wilderness, and remained in the mountains in the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand. 15.   So David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. And David was in the Wilderness of Ziph in a forest. 16.   Then Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God. 17.   And he said to him, "Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Even my father Saul knows that." 18.   So the two of them made a covenant before the LORD. And David stayed in the woods, and Jonathan went to his own house. 19.   Then the Ziphites came up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Is David not hiding with us in strongholds in the woods, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon? 20.   "Now therefore, O king, come down according to all the desire of your soul to come down; and our part shall be to deliver him into the king’s hand." 21.   And Saul said, "Blessed are you of the LORD, for you have compassion on me. 22.   "Please go and find out for sure, and see the place where his hideout is, and who has seen him there. For I am told he is very crafty. 23.   "See therefore, and take knowledge of all the lurking places where he hides; and come back to me with certainty, and I will go with you. And it shall be, if he is in the land, that I will search for him throughout all the clans of Judah." 24.   So they arose and went to Ziph before Saul. But David and his men were in the Wilderness of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon. 25.   When Saul and his men went to seek him , they told David. Therefore he went down to the rock, and stayed in the Wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that , he pursued David in the Wilderness of Maon. 26.   Then Saul went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men on the other side of the mountain. So David made haste to get away from Saul, for Saul and his men were encircling David and his men to take them. 27.   But a messenger came to Saul, saying, "Hasten and come, for the Philistines have invaded the land!" 28.   Therefore Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines; so they called that place the Rock of Escape. 29.   Then David went up from there and dwelt in strongholds at En Gedi.

YER 22 9-30

9.   "Then they will answer, ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshiped other gods and served them.’" 10.   Weep not for the dead, nor bemoan him; Weep bitterly for him who goes away, For he shall return no more, Nor see his native country. 11.   For thus says the LORD concerning Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, who went from this place: "He shall not return here anymore, 12.   "but he shall die in the place where they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more. 13.   "Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness And his chambers by injustice, Who uses his neighbor’s service without wages And gives him nothing for his work, 14.   Who says, ‘I will build myself a wide house with spacious chambers, And cut out windows for it, Paneling it with cedar And painting it with vermilion.’ 15.   "Shall you reign because you enclose yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, And do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. 16.   He judged the cause of the poor and needy; Then it was well. Was not this knowing Me?" says the LORD. 17.   "Yet your eyes and your heart are for nothing but your covetousness, For shedding innocent blood, And practicing oppression and violence." 18.   Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: "They shall not lament for him, Saying , ‘Alas, my brother!’ or ‘Alas, my sister!’ They shall not lament for him, Saying , ‘Alas, master!’ or ‘Alas, his glory!’ 19.   He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, Dragged and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem. 20.   "Go up to Lebanon, and cry out, And lift up your voice in Bashan; Cry from Abarim, For all your lovers are destroyed. 21.   I spoke to you in your prosperity, But you said, ‘I will not hear.’ This has been your manner from your youth, That you did not obey My voice. 22.   The wind shall eat up all your rulers, And your lovers shall go into captivity; Surely then you will be ashamed and humiliated For all your wickedness. 23.   O inhabitant of Lebanon, Making your nest in the cedars, How gracious will you be when pangs come upon you, Like the pain of a woman in labor? 24.   " As I live," says the LORD, "though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, were the signet on My right hand, yet I would pluck you off; 25.   "and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose face you fear––the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of the Chaldeans. 26.   "So I will cast you out, and your mother who bore you, into another country where you were not born; and there you shall die. 27.   "But to the land to which they desire to return, there they shall not return. 28.   "Is this man Coniah a despised, broken idol––A vessel in which is no pleasure? Why are they cast out, he and his descendants, And cast into a land which they do not know? 29.   O earth, earth, earth, Hear the word of the LORD! 30.   Thus says the LORD: ‘Write this man down as childless, A man who shall not prosper in his days; For none of his descendants shall prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling anymore in Judah.’"

LUK 8 26-56

26.   Then they sailed to the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. 27.   And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. 28.   When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!" 29.   For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness. 30.   Jesus asked him, saying, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion," because many demons had entered him. 31.   And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss. 32.   Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. 33.   Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned. 34.   When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country. 35.   Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 36.   They also who had seen it told them by what means he who had been demon–possessed was healed. 37.   Then the whole multitude of the surrounding region of the Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. And He got into the boat and returned. 38.   Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, 39.   "Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you." And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. 40.   So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. 41.   And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house, 42.   for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. 43.   Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44.   came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped. 45.   And Jesus said, "Who touched Me?" When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, "Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’" 46.   But Jesus said, "Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me." 47.   Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. 48.   And He said to her, "Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace." 49.   While He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house , saying to him, "Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher." 50.   But when Jesus heard it , He answered him, saying, "Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well." 51.   When He came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl. 52.   Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, "Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping." 53.   And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. 54.   But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, "Little girl, arise." 55.   Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat. 56.   And her parents were astonished, but He charged them to tell no one what had happened.
