YER 30
LUK 12:1-34

2SAM 2

1.   It happened after this that David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?" And the LORD said to him, "Go up." David said, "Where shall I go up?" And He said, "To Hebron." 2.   So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite. 3.   And David brought up the men who were with him, every man with his household. So they dwelt in the cities of Hebron. 4.   Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, "The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul." 5.   So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, "You are blessed of the LORD, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him. 6.   "And now may the LORD show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing. 7.   "Now therefore, let your hands be strengthened, and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them." 8.   But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim; 9.   and he made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, over Benjamin, and over all Israel. 10.   Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. Only the house of Judah followed David. 11.   And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months. 12.   Now Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon. 13.   And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. So they sat down, one on one side of the pool and the other on the other side of the pool. 14.   Then Abner said to Joab, "Let the young men now arise and compete before us." And Joab said, "Let them arise." 15.   So they arose and went over by number, twelve from Benjamin, followers of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve from the servants of David. 16.   And each one grasped his opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his opponent’s side; so they fell down together. Therefore that place was called the Field of Sharp Swords, which is in Gibeon. 17.   So there was a very fierce battle that day, and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten before the servants of David. 18.   Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab and Abishai and Asahel. And Asahel was as fleet of foot as a wild gazelle. 19.   So Asahel pursued Abner, and in going he did not turn to the right hand or to the left from following Abner. 20.   Then Abner looked behind him and said, " Are you Asahel?" He answered, "I am ." 21.   And Abner said to him, "Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and lay hold on one of the young men and take his armor for yourself." But Asahel would not turn aside from following him. 22.   So Abner said again to Asahel, "Turn aside from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I face your brother Joab?" 23.   However, he refused to turn aside. Therefore Abner struck him in the stomach with the blunt end of the spear, so that the spear came out of his back; and he fell down there and died on the spot. So it was that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died, stood still. 24.   Joab and Abishai also pursued Abner. And the sun was going down when they came to the hill of Ammah, which is before Giah by the road to the Wilderness of Gibeon. 25.   Now the children of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner and became a unit, and took their stand on top of a hill. 26.   Then Abner called to Joab and said, "Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that it will be bitter in the latter end? How long will it be then until you tell the people to return from pursuing their brethren?" 27.   And Joab said, " As God lives, unless you had spoken, surely then by morning all the people would have given up pursuing their brethren." 28.   So Joab blew a trumpet; and all the people stood still and did not pursue Israel anymore, nor did they fight anymore. 29.   Then Abner and his men went on all that night through the plain, crossed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron; and they came to Mahanaim. 30.   So Joab returned from pursuing Abner. And when he had gathered all the people together, there were missing of David’s servants nineteen men and Asahel. 31.   But the servants of David had struck down, of Benjamin and Abner’s men, three hundred and sixty men who died. 32.   Then they took up Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at daybreak.

YER 30

1.   The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2.   "Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you. 3.   ‘For behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the LORD. ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’" 4.   Now these are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and Judah. 5.   "For thus says the LORD: ‘We have heard a voice of trembling, Of fear, and not of peace. 6.   Ask now, and see, Whether a man is ever in labor with child? So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins Like a woman in labor, And all faces turned pale? 7.   Alas! For that day is great, So that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, But he shall be saved out of it. 8.   ‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’ Says the LORD of hosts, ‘ That I will break his yoke from your neck, And will burst your bonds; Foreigners shall no more enslave them. 9.   But they shall serve the LORD their God, And David their king, Whom I will raise up for them. 10.   ‘Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the LORD, ‘Nor be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you from afar, And your seed from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet, And no one shall make him afraid. 11.   For I am with you,’ says the LORD, ‘to save you; Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, Yet I will not make a complete end of you. But I will correct you in justice, And will not let you go altogether unpunished.’ 12.   "For thus says the LORD: ‘Your affliction is incurable, Your wound is severe. 13.   There is no one to plead your cause, That you may be bound up; You have no healing medicines. 14.   All your lovers have forgotten you; They do not seek you; For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, With the chastisement of a cruel one, For the multitude of your iniquities, Because your sins have increased. 15.   Why do you cry about your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable. Because of the multitude of your iniquities, Because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you. 16.   ‘Therefore all those who devour you shall be devoured; And all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; Those who plunder you shall become plunder, And all who prey upon you I will make a prey. 17.   For I will restore health to you And heal you of your wounds,’ says the LORD, ‘Because they called you an outcast saying : "This is Zion; No one seeks her."’ 18.   "Thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents, And have mercy on his dwelling places; The city shall be built upon its own mound, And the palace shall remain according to its own plan. 19.   Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving And the voice of those who make merry; I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. 20.   Their children also shall be as before, And their congregation shall be established before Me; And I will punish all who oppress them. 21.   Their nobles shall be from among them, And their governor shall come from their midst; Then I will cause him to draw near, And he shall approach Me; For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the LORD. 22.   ‘You shall be My people, And I will be your God.’" 23.   Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD Goes forth with fury, A continuing whirlwind; It will fall violently on the head of the wicked. 24.   The fierce anger of the LORD will not return until He has done it, And until He has performed the intents of His heart. In the latter days you will consider it.

LUK 12 1-34

1.   In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all , "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2.   "For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. 3.   "Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops. 4.   "And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5.   "But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him! 6.   "Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7.   "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 8.   "Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. 9.   "But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God. 10.   "And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven. 11.   "Now when they bring you to the synagogues and magistrates and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. 12.   "For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." 13.   Then one from the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." 14.   But He said to him, "Man, who made Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?" 15.   And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses." 16.   Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: "The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17.   "And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18.   "So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19.   ‘And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry."’ 20.   "But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21.   "So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." 22.   Then He said to His disciples, "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. 23.   "Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. 24.   "Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? 25.   "And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 26.   "If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? 27.   "Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28.   "If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? 29.   "And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. 30.   "For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. 31.   "But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. 32.   "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33.   "Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. 34.   "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
