1. When David was a little past the top of the mountain , there was Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth, who met him with a couple of saddled donkeys, and on them two hundred loaves of bread, one hundred clusters of raisins, one hundred summer fruits, and a skin of wine. 2. And the king said to Ziba, "What do you mean to do with these?" So Ziba said, "The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for those who are faint in the wilderness to drink." 3. Then the king said, "And where is your master’s son?" And Ziba said to the king, "Indeed he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, ‘Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.’" 4. So the king said to Ziba, "Here, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours." And Ziba said, "I humbly bow before you, that I may find favor in your sight, my lord, O king!" 5. Now when King David came to Bahurim, there was a man from the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei the son of Gera, coming from there. He came out, cursing continuously as he came. 6. And he threw stones at David and at all the servants of King David. And all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. 7. Also Shimei said thus when he cursed: "Come out! Come out! You bloodthirsty man, you rogue! 8. "The LORD has brought upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. So now you are caught in your own evil, because you are a bloodthirsty man!" 9. Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, "Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please, let me go over and take off his head!" 10. But the king said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because the LORD has said to him, ‘Curse David.’ Who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’" 11. And David said to Abishai and all his servants, "See how my son who came from my own body seeks my life. How much more now may this Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse; for so the LORD has ordered him. 12. "It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction, and that the LORD will repay me with good for his cursing this day." 13. And as David and his men went along the road, Shimei went along the hillside opposite him and cursed as he went, threw stones at him and kicked up dust. 14. Now the king and all the people who were with him became weary; so they refreshed themselves there. 15. Meanwhile Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem; and Ahithophel was with him. 16. And so it was, when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, came to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, " Long live the king! Long live the king!" 17. So Absalom said to Hushai, " Is this your loyalty to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?" 18. And Hushai said to Absalom, "No, but whom the LORD and this people and all the men of Israel choose, his I will be, and with him I will remain. 19. Furthermore, whom should I serve? Should I not serve in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father’s presence, so will I be in your presence." 20. Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give counsel as to what we should do." 21. And Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Go in to your father’s concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you are abhorred by your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be strong." 22. So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel. 23. Now the advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if one had inquired at the oracle of God. So was all the advice of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

Now it happened, when Jeremiah had stopped speaking to all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, all these words, 2. that Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah, "You speak falsely! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, ‘Do not go to Egypt to dwell there.’ 3. "But Baruch the son of Neriah has set you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they may put us to death or carry us away captive to Babylon." 4. So Johanan the son of Kareah, all the captains of the forces, and all the people would not obey the voice of the LORD, to remain in the land of Judah. 5. But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah who had returned to dwell in the land of Judah, from all nations where they had been driven–– 6. men, women, children, the king’s daughters, and every person whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the son of Neriah. 7. So they went to the land of Egypt, for they did not obey the voice of the LORD. And they went as far as Tahpanhes. 8. Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying, 9. "Take large stones in your hand, and hide them in the sight of the men of Judah, in the clay in the brick courtyard which is at the entrance to Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes; 10. "and say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Behold, I will send and bring Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will set his throne above these stones that I have hidden. And he will spread his royal pavilion over them. 11. "When he comes, he shall strike the land of Egypt and deliver to death those appointed for death, and to captivity those appointed for captivity, and to the sword those appointed for the sword. 12. "I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt, and he shall burn them and carry them away captive. And he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment, and he shall go out from there in peace. 13. "He shall also break the sacred pillars of Beth Shemesh that are in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians he shall burn with fire."’"
18. Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, "Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 19. So Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is , God. 20. "You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’" 21. And he said, "All these things I have kept from my youth." 22. So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." 23. But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich. 24. And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25. "For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 26. And those who heard it said, "Who then can be saved?" 27. But He said, "The things which are impossible with men are possible with God." 28. Then Peter said, "See, we have left all and followed You." 29. So He said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30. "who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life." 31. Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. 32. "For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. 33. "They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again." 34. But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken. 35. Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. 36. And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. 37. So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38. And he cried out, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" 39. Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 40. So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, 41. saying, "What do you want Me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, that I may receive my sight." 42. Then Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." 43. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it , gave praise to God.
