King James Version

1RAJ 1:1-27
YER 51:34-64
LUK 22:47-71

1RAJ 1 1-27

1.   Now King David was old, advanced in years; and they put covers on him, but he could not get warm. 2.   Therefore his servants said to him, "Let a young woman, a virgin, be sought for our lord the king, and let her stand before the king, and let her care for him; and let her lie in your bosom, that our lord the king may be warm." 3.   So they sought for a lovely young woman throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king. 4.   The young woman was very lovely; and she cared for the king, and served him; but the king did not know her. 5.   Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king"; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. 6.   (And his father had not rebuked him at any time by saying, "Why have you done so?" He was also very good–looking. His mother had borne him after Absalom.) 7.   Then he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they followed and helped Adonijah. 8.   But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David were not with Adonijah. 9.   And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fattened cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En Rogel; he also invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants. 10.   But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, or Solomon his brother. 11.   So Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, "Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it ? 12.   "Come, please, let me now give you advice, that you may save your own life and the life of your son Solomon. 13.   "Go immediately to King David and say to him, ‘Did you not, my lord, O king, swear to your maidservant, saying, "Assuredly your son Solomon shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne"? Why then has Adonijah become king?’ 14.   "Then, while you are still talking there with the king, I also will come in after you and confirm your words." 15.   So Bathsheba went into the chamber to the king. (Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.) 16.   And Bathsheba bowed and did homage to the king. Then the king said, "What is your wish?" 17.   Then she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your maidservant, saying , ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’ 18.   "So now, look! Adonijah has become king; and now, my lord the king, you do not know about it . 19.   "He has sacrificed oxen and fattened cattle and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army; but Solomon your servant he has not invited. 20.   "And as for you, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. 21.   "Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king rests with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted as offenders." 22.   And just then, while she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in. 23.   So they told the king, saying, "Here is Nathan the prophet." And when he came in before the king, he bowed down before the king with his face to the ground. 24.   And Nathan said, "My lord, O king, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne’? 25.   "For he has gone down today, and has sacrificed oxen and fattened cattle and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king’s sons, and the commanders of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and look! They are eating and drinking before him; and they say, ‘ Long live King Adonijah!’ 26.   "But he has not invited me––me your servant––nor Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, nor your servant Solomon. 27.   "Has this thing been done by my lord the king, and you have not told your servant who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?"

YER 51 34-64

34.   "Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon Has devoured me, he has crushed me; He has made me an empty vessel, He has swallowed me up like a monster; He has filled his stomach with my delicacies, He has spit me out. 35.   Let the violence done to me and my flesh be upon Babylon," The inhabitant of Zion will say; "And my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea!" Jerusalem will say. 36.   Therefore thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will plead your case and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her springs dry. 37.   Babylon shall become a heap, A dwelling place for jackals, An astonishment and a hissing, Without an inhabitant. 38.   They shall roar together like lions, They shall growl like lions’ whelps. 39.   In their excitement I will prepare their feasts; I will make them drunk, That they may rejoice, And sleep a perpetual sleep And not awake," says the LORD. 40.   "I will bring them down Like lambs to the slaughter, Like rams with male goats. 41.   "Oh, how Sheshach is taken! Oh, how the praise of the whole earth is seized! How Babylon has become desolate among the nations! 42.   The sea has come up over Babylon; She is covered with the multitude of its waves. 43.   Her cities are a desolation, A dry land and a wilderness, A land where no one dwells, Through which no son of man passes. 44.   I will punish Bel in Babylon, And I will bring out of his mouth what he has swallowed; And the nations shall not stream to him anymore. Yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall. 45.   "My people, go out of the midst of her! And let everyone deliver himself from the fierce anger of the LORD. 46.   And lest your heart faint, And you fear for the rumor that will be heard in the land (A rumor will come one year, And after that, in another year A rumor will come , And violence in the land, Ruler against ruler), 47.   Therefore behold, the days are coming That I will bring judgment on the carved images of Babylon; Her whole land shall be ashamed, And all her slain shall fall in her midst. 48.   Then the heavens and the earth and all that is in them Shall sing joyously over Babylon; For the plunderers shall come to her from the north," says the LORD. 49.   As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, So at Babylon the slain of all the earth shall fall. 50.   You who have escaped the sword, Get away! Do not stand still! Remember the LORD afar off, And let Jerusalem come to your mind. 51.   We are ashamed because we have heard reproach. Shame has covered our faces, For strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the LORD’S house. 52.   "Therefore behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will bring judgment on her carved images, And throughout all her land the wounded shall groan. 53.   Though Babylon were to mount up to heaven, And though she were to fortify the height of her strength, Yet from Me plunderers would come to her," says the LORD. 54.   The sound of a cry comes from Babylon, And great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans, 55.   Because the LORD is plundering Babylon And silencing her loud voice, Though her waves roar like great waters, And the noise of their voice is uttered, 56.   Because the plunderer comes against her, against Babylon, And her mighty men are taken. Every one of their bows is broken; For the LORD is the God of recompense, He will surely repay. 57.   "And I will make drunk Her princes and wise men, Her governors, her deputies, and her mighty men. And they shall sleep a perpetual sleep And not awake," says the King, Whose name is the LORD of hosts. 58.   Thus says the LORD of hosts: "The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, And her high gates shall be burned with fire; The people will labor in vain, And the nations, because of the fire; And they shall be weary." 59.   The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And Seraiah was the quartermaster. 60.   So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that would come upon Babylon, all these words that are written against Babylon. 61.   And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, "When you arrive in Babylon and see it, and read all these words, 62.   "then you shall say, ‘O LORD, You have spoken against this place to cut it off, so that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but it shall be desolate forever.’ 63.   "Now it shall be, when you have finished reading this book, that you shall tie a stone to it and throw it out into the Euphrates. 64.   "Then you shall say, ‘Thus Babylon shall sink and not rise from the catastrophe that I will bring upon her. And they shall be weary.’" Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

LUK 22 47-71

47.   And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. 48.   But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?" 49.   When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" 50.   And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51.   But Jesus answered and said, "Permit even this." And He touched his ear and healed him. 52.   Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, "Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53.   "When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness." 54.   Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance. 55.   Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56.   And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, "This man was also with Him." 57.   But he denied Him, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him." 58.   And after a little while another saw him and said, "You also are of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not!" 59.   Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, "Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean." 60.   But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are saying!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61.   And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." 62.   So Peter went out and wept bitterly. 63.   Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. 64.   And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?" 65.   And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him. 66.   As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying, 67.   "If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will by no means believe. 68.   "And if I also ask you , you will by no means answer Me or let Me go. 69.   "Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God." 70.   Then they all said, "Are You then the Son of God?" So He said to them, "You rightly say that I am." 71.   And they said, "What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth."
