King James Version

MZM 140-142
LUK 14 : 1-24

MZM 140

1.   <> Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men, 2.   Who plan evil things in their hearts; They continually gather together for war. 3.   They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; The poison of asps is under their lips. Selah 4.   Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men, Who have purposed to make my steps stumble. 5.   The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set traps for me. Selah 6.   I said to the LORD: "You are my God; Hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD. 7.   O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle. 8.   Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not further his wicked scheme, Lest they be exalted. Selah 9.   " As for the head of those who surround me, Let the evil of their lips cover them; 10.   Let burning coals fall upon them; Let them be cast into the fire, Into deep pits, that they rise not up again. 11.   Let not a slanderer be established in the earth; Let evil hunt the violent man to overthrow him ." 12.   I know that the LORD will maintain The cause of the afflicted, And justice for the poor. 13.   Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; The upright shall dwell in Your presence.

MZM 141

1.   <> LORD, I cry out to You; Make haste to me! Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You. 0.   2Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. 3.   Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. 4.   Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, To practice wicked works With men who work iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies. 5.   Let the righteous strike me; It shall be a kindness. And let him rebuke me; It shall be as excellent oil; Let my head not refuse it. For still my prayer is against the deeds of the wicked. 6.   Their judges are overthrown by the sides of the cliff, And they hear my words, for they are sweet. 7.   Our bones are scattered at the mouth of the grave, As when one plows and breaks up the earth. 8.   But my eyes are upon You, O GOD the Lord; In You I take refuge; Do not leave my soul destitute. 9.   Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, And from the traps of the workers of iniquity. 10.   Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I escape safely.

MZM 142

1.   <> I cry out to the LORD with my voice; With my voice to the LORD I make my supplication. 0.   2I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare before Him my trouble. 3.   When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, Then You knew my path. In the way in which I walk They have secretly set a snare for me. 4.   Look on my right hand and see, For there is no one who acknowledges me; Refuge has failed me; No one cares for my soul. 5.   I cried out to You, O LORD: I said, "You are my refuge, My portion in the land of the living. 6.   Attend to my cry, For I am brought very low; Deliver me from my persecutors, For they are stronger than I. 7.   Bring my soul out of prison, That I may praise Your name; The righteous shall surround me, For You shall deal bountifully with me."

LUK 14 1-24

1.   Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely. 2.   And behold, there was a certain man before Him who had dropsy. 3.   And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" 4.   But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go. 5.   Then He answered them, saying, "Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?" 6.   And they could not answer Him regarding these things. 7.   So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them: 8.   "When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him; 9.   "and he who invited you and him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10.   "But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you. 11.   "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." 12.   Then He also said to him who invited Him, "When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. 13.   "But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. 14.   "And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just." 15.   Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!" 16.   Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, 17.   "and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’ 18.   "But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’ 19.   "And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’ 20.   "Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ 21.   "So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’ 22.   "And the servant said, ‘Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’ 23.   "Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24.   ‘For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.’"
