2RAJ 6 1-23

1.   And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us. 2.   "Please, let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there, and let us make there a place where we may dwell." So he answered, "Go." 3.   Then one said, "Please consent to go with your servants." And he answered, "I will go." 4.   So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. 5.   But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, "Alas, master! For it was borrowed." 6.   So the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. 7.   Therefore he said, "Pick it up for yourself." So he reached out his hand and took it. 8.   Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, "My camp will be in such and such a place." 9.   And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, "Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there." 10.   Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice. 11.   Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, "Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?" 12.   And one of his servants said, "None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom." 13.   So he said, "Go and see where he is , that I may send and get him." And it was told him, saying, "Surely he is in Dothan." 14.   Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 15.   And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?" 16.   So he answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." 17.   And Elisha prayed, and said, "LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18.   So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD, and said, "Strike this people, I pray, with blindness." And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. 19.   Now Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, nor is this the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." But he led them to Samaria. 20.   So it was, when they had come to Samaria, that Elisha said, "LORD, open the eyes of these men , that they may see." And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and there they were , inside Samaria! 21.   Now when the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, "My father, shall I kill them ? Shall I kill them ?" 22.   But he answered, "You shall not kill them . Would you kill those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master." 23.   Then he prepared a great feast for them; and after they ate and drank, he sent them away and they went to their master. So the bands of Syrian raiders came no more into the land of Israel.

1.   The word of the LORD came to me again, saying, 2.   "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because your heart is lifted up, And you say, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,’ Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god 3.   (Behold, you are wiser than Daniel! There is no secret that can be hidden from you! 4.   With your wisdom and your understanding You have gained riches for yourself, And gathered gold and silver into your treasuries; 5.   By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches, And your heart is lifted up because of your riches)," 6.   ‘Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Because you have set your heart as the heart of a god, 7.   Behold, therefore, I will bring strangers against you, The most terrible of the nations; And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, And defile your splendor. 8.   They shall throw you down into the Pit, And you shall die the death of the slain In the midst of the seas. 9.   "Will you still say before him who slays you, ‘I am a god’? But you shall be a man, and not a god, In the hand of him who slays you. 10.   You shall die the death of the uncircumcised By the hand of aliens; For I have spoken," says the Lord GOD.’" 11.   Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 12.   "Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: "You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. 13.   You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. 14.   "You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. 15.   You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you. 16.   "By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. 17.   "Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you. 18.   "You defiled your sanctuaries By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity of your trading; Therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, And I turned you to ashes upon the earth In the sight of all who saw you. 19.   All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you; You have become a horror, And shall be no more forever."’" 20.   Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 21.   "Son of man, set your face toward Sidon, and prophesy against her, 22.   "and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I am against you, O Sidon; I will be glorified in your midst; And they shall know that I am the LORD, When I execute judgments in her and am hallowed in her. 23.   For I will send pestilence upon her, And blood in her streets; The wounded shall be judged in her midst By the sword against her on every side; Then they shall know that I am the LORD. 24.   "And there shall no longer be a pricking brier or a painful thorn for the house of Israel from among all who are around them, who despise them. Then they shall know that I am the Lord GOD." 25.   ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: "When I have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and am hallowed in them in the sight of the Gentiles, then they will dwell in their own land which I gave to My servant Jacob. 26.   "And they will dwell safely there, build houses, and plant vineyards; yes, they will dwell securely, when I execute judgments on all those around them who despise them. Then they shall know that I am the LORD their God."’"

1.   Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2.   as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3.   if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 4.   Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, 5.   you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6.   Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame." 7.   Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone," 8.   and "A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. 9.   But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10.   who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. 11.   Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, 12.   having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. 13.   Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, 14.   or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good. 15.   For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men–– 16.   as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. 17.   Honor all people . Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. 18.   Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh. 19.   For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. 20.   For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. 21.   For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: 22.   "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth"; 23.   who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24.   who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness––by whose stripes you were healed. 25.   For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
