King James Version
20. And the LORD said to Moses, "Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh as he comes out to the water. Then say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: "Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 21. "Or else, if you will not let My people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies on you and your servants, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies , and also the ground on which they stand . 22. "And in that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, in which My people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there, in order that you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of the land. 23. "I will make a difference between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall be."’" 24. And the LORD did so. Thick swarms of flies came into the house of Pharaoh, into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt. The land was corrupted because of the swarms of flies . 25. Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, "Go, sacrifice to your God in the land." 26. And Moses said, "It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not stone us? 27. "We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as He will command us." 28. And Pharaoh said, "I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Intercede for me." 29. Then Moses said, "Indeed I am going out from you, and I will entreat the LORD, that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. But let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD." 30. So Moses went out from Pharaoh and entreated the LORD. 31. And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. Not one remained. 32. But Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also; neither would he let the people go.
1. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go in to Pharaoh and tell him, ‘Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews: "Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 2. "For if you refuse to let them go, and still hold them, 3. "behold, the hand of the LORD will be on your cattle in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the oxen, and on the sheep––a very severe pestilence. 4. "And the LORD will make a difference between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt. So nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel."’" 5. Then the LORD appointed a set time, saying, "Tomorrow the LORD will do this thing in the land." 6. So the LORD did this thing on the next day, and all the livestock of Egypt died; but of the livestock of the children of Israel, not one died. 7. Then Pharaoh sent, and indeed, not even one of the livestock of the Israelites was dead. But the heart of Pharaoh became hard, and he did not let the people go. 8. So the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Take for yourselves handfuls of ashes from a furnace, and let Moses scatter it toward the heavens in the sight of Pharaoh. 9. "And it will become fine dust in all the land of Egypt, and it will cause boils that break out in sores on man and beast throughout all the land of Egypt." 10. Then they took ashes from the furnace and stood before Pharaoh, and Moses scattered them toward heaven. And they caused boils that break out in sores on man and beast. 11. And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians. 12. But the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh; and he did not heed them, just as the LORD had spoken to Moses. 13. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews: "Let My people go, that they may serve Me, 14. "for at this time I will send all My plagues to your very heart, and on your servants and on your people, that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth. 15. "Now if I had stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, then you would have been cut off from the earth. 16. "But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. 17. "As yet you exalt yourself against My people in that you will not let them go. 18. "Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause very heavy hail to rain down, such as has not been in Egypt since its founding until now. 19. "Therefore send now and gather your livestock and all that you have in the field, for the hail shall come down on every man and every animal which is found in the field and is not brought home; and they shall die."’" 20. He who feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his livestock flee to the houses. 21. But he who did not regard the word of the LORD left his servants and his livestock in the field. 22. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt––on man, on beast, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt." 23. And Moses stretched out his rod toward heaven; and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire darted to the ground. And the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt. 24. So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, so very heavy that there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25. And the hail struck throughout the whole land of Egypt, all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail struck every herb of the field and broke every tree of the field. 26. Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were , there was no hail. 27. And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "I have sinned this time. The LORD is righteous, and my people and I are wicked. 28. "Entreat the LORD, that there may be no more mighty thundering and hail, for it is enough. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer." 29. So Moses said to him, "As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease, and there will be no more hail, that you may know that the earth is the LORD’S. 30. "But as for you and your servants, I know that you will not yet fear the LORD God." 31. Now the flax and the barley were struck, for the barley was in the head and the flax was in bud. 32. But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they are late crops. 33. So Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh and spread out his hands to the LORD; then the thunder and the hail ceased, and the rain was not poured on the earth. 34. And when Pharaoh saw that the rain, the hail, and the thunder had ceased, he sinned yet more; and he hardened his heart, he and his servants. 35. So the heart of Pharaoh was hard; neither would he let the children of Israel go, as the LORD had spoken by Moses.
1. Elihu further answered and said: 2. "Hear my words, you wise men ; Give ear to me, you who have knowledge. 3. For the ear tests words As the palate tastes food. 4. Let us choose justice for ourselves; Let us know among ourselves what is good. 5. "For Job has said, ‘I am righteous, But God has taken away my justice; 6. Should I lie concerning my right? My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.’ 7. What man is like Job, Who drinks scorn like water, 8. Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, And walks with wicked men? 9. For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing That he should delight in God.’ 10. "Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: Far be it from God to do wickedness, And from the Almighty to commit iniquity. 11. For He repays man according to his work, And makes man to find a reward according to his way. 12. Surely God will never do wickedly, Nor will the Almighty pervert justice. 13. Who gave Him charge over the earth? Or who appointed Him over the whole world? 14. If He should set His heart on it, If He should gather to Himself His Spirit and His breath, 15. All flesh would perish together, And man would return to dust. 16. "If you have understanding, hear this; listen to the sound of my words: 17. Should one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn Him who is most just? 18. Is it fitting to say to a king, ‘ You are worthless,’ And to nobles, ‘ You are wicked’? 19. Yet He is not partial to princes, Nor does He regard the rich more than the poor; For they are all the work of His hands. 20. In a moment they die, in the middle of the night; The people are shaken and pass away; The mighty are taken away without a hand. 21. "For His eyes are on the ways of man, And He sees all his steps. 22. There is no darkness nor shadow of death Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. 23. For He need not further consider a man, That he should go before God in judgment. 24. He breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry, And sets others in their place. 25. Therefore he knows their works; He overthrows them in the night, And they are crushed. 26. He strikes them as wicked men In the open sight of others, 27. Because they turned back from Him, And would not consider any of His ways, 28. So that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him; For He hears the cry of the afflicted. 29. When He gives quietness, who then can make trouble? And when He hides His face, who then can see Him, Whether it is against a nation or a man alone? –– 30. That the hypocrite should not reign, Lest the people be ensnared. 31. "For has anyone said to God, ‘I have borne chastening ; I will offend no more; 32. Teach me what I do not see; If I have done iniquity, I will do no more’? 33. Should He repay it according to your terms, Just because you disavow it? You must choose, and not I; Therefore speak what you know. 34. "Men of understanding say to me, Wise men who listen to me: 35. ‘Job speaks without knowledge, His words are without wisdom.’ 36. Oh, that Job were tried to the utmost, Because his answers are like those of wicked men! 37. For he adds rebellion to his sin; He claps his hands among us, And multiplies his words against God."
1. The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2. until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, 3. to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. 4. And being assembled together with them , He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said , "you have heard from Me; 5. "for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." 6. Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7. And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8. "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." 9. Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, 11. who also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven." 12. Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. 13. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. 14. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. 15. And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples (altogether the number of names was about a hundred and twenty), and said, 16. "Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; 17. "for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry." 18. (Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. 19. And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20. "For it is written in the book of Psalms: ‘Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it’; and, ‘Let another take his office.’ 21. "Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22. "beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection." 23. And they proposed two: Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. 24. And they prayed and said, "You, O Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which of these two You have chosen 25. "to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place." 26. And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
