43. And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner shall eat it. 44. "But every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then he may eat it. 45. "A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat it. 46. "In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones. 47. "All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. 48. "And when a stranger dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as a native of the land. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it. 49. "One law shall be for the native–born and for the stranger who dwells among you." 50. Thus all the children of Israel did; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. 51. And it came to pass, on that very same day, that the LORD brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their armies.
1. Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2. "Consecrate to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine." 3. And Moses said to the people: "Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out of this place . No leavened bread shall be eaten. 4. "On this day you are going out, in the month Abib. 5. "And it shall be, when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month. 6. "Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the LORD. 7. "Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And no leavened bread shall be seen among you, nor shall leaven be seen among you in all your quarters. 8. "And you shall tell your son in that day, saying, ‘ This is done because of what the LORD did for me when I came up from Egypt.’ 9. "It shall be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the LORD’S law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of Egypt. 10. "You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year. 11. "And it shall be, when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you and your fathers, and gives it to you, 12. "that you shall set apart to the LORD all that open the womb, that is, every firstborn that comes from an animal which you have; the males shall be the LORD’S. 13. "But every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it , then you shall break its neck. And all the firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem. 14. "So it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you shall say to him, ‘By strength of hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 15. ‘And it came to pass, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the LORD killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all males that open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16. "It shall be as a sign on your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt." 17. Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, "Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt." 18. So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt. 19. And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under solemn oath, saying, "God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with you." 20. So they took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. 21. And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. 22. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.
1. Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: 2. "Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge? 3. Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me. 4. "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me , if you have understanding. 5. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6. To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7. When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8. "Or who shut in the sea with doors, When it burst forth and issued from the womb; 9. When I made the clouds its garment, And thick darkness its swaddling band; 10. When I fixed My limit for it, And set bars and doors; 11. When I said, ‘This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!’ 12. "Have you commanded the morning since your days began, And caused the dawn to know its place, 13. That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it? 14. It takes on form like clay under a seal, And stands out like a garment. 15. From the wicked their light is withheld, And the upraised arm is broken. 16. "Have you entered the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in search of the depths? 17. Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? 18. Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth? Tell Me , if you know all this. 19. "Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place, 20. That you may take it to its territory, That you may know the paths to its home? 21. Do you know it , because you were born then, Or because the number of your days is great? 22. "Have you entered the treasury of snow, Or have you seen the treasury of hail, 23. Which I have reserved for the time of trouble, For the day of battle and war? 24. By what way is light diffused, Or the east wind scattered over the earth? 25. "Who has divided a channel for the overflowing water , Or a path for the thunderbolt, 26. To cause it to rain on a land where there is no one, A wilderness in which there is no man; 27. To satisfy the desolate waste, And cause to spring forth the growth of tender grass? 28. Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? 29. From whose womb comes the ice? And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth? 30. The waters harden like stone, And the surface of the deep is frozen. 31. "Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion? 32. Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs? 33. Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth? 34. "Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, That an abundance of water may cover you? 35. Can you send out lightnings, that they may go, And say to you, ‘Here we are !’? 36. Who has put wisdom in the mind? Or who has given understanding to the heart? 37. Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven, 38. When the dust hardens in clumps, And the clods cling together? 39. "Can you hunt the prey for the lion, Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions, 40. When they crouch in their dens, Or lurk in their lairs to lie in wait? 41. Who provides food for the raven, When its young ones cry to God, And wander about for lack of food?
1. "Do you know the time when the wild mountain goats bear young? Or can you mark when the deer gives birth? 2. Can you number the months that they fulfill? Or do you know the time when they bear young? 3. They bow down, They bring forth their young, They deliver their offspring. 4. Their young ones are healthy, They grow strong with grain; They depart and do not return to them. 5. "Who set the wild donkey free? Who loosed the bonds of the onager, 6. Whose home I have made the wilderness, And the barren land his dwelling? 7. He scorns the tumult of the city; He does not heed the shouts of the driver. 8. The range of the mountains is his pasture, And he searches after every green thing. 9. "Will the wild ox be willing to serve you? Will he bed by your manger? 10. Can you bind the wild ox in the furrow with ropes? Or will he plow the valleys behind you? 11. Will you trust him because his strength is great? Or will you leave your labor to him? 12. Will you trust him to bring home your grain, And gather it to your threshing floor? 13. "The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, But are her wings and pinions like the kindly stork’s? 14. For she leaves her eggs on the ground, And warms them in the dust; 15. She forgets that a foot may crush them, Or that a wild beast may break them. 16. She treats her young harshly, as though they were not hers; Her labor is in vain, without concern, 17. Because God deprived her of wisdom, And did not endow her with understanding. 18. When she lifts herself on high, She scorns the horse and its rider. 19. "Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with thunder? 20. Can you frighten him like a locust? His majestic snorting strikes terror. 21. He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength; He gallops into the clash of arms. 22. He mocks at fear, and is not frightened; Nor does he turn back from the sword. 23. The quiver rattles against him, The glittering spear and javelin. 24. He devours the distance with fierceness and rage; Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded. 25. At the blast of the trumpet he says, ‘Aha!’ He smells the battle from afar, The thunder of captains and shouting. 26. "Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, And spread its wings toward the south? 27. Does the eagle mount up at your command, And make its nest on high? 28. On the rocks it dwells and resides, On the crag of the rock and the stronghold. 29. From there it spies out the prey; Its eyes observe from afar. 30. Its young ones suck up blood; And where the slain are , there it is ."
1. Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour . 2. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; 3. who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. 4. And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us." 5. So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6. Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." 7. And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them––walking, leaping, and praising God. 9. And all the people saw him walking and praising God. 10. Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. 11. Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. 12. So when Peter saw it , he responded to the people: "Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? 13. "The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. 14. "But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, 15. "and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. 16. "And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. 17. "Yet now, brethren, I know that you did it in ignorance, as did also your rulers. 18. "But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19. "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, 20. "and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, 21. "whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. 22. "For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. 23. ‘And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24. "Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. 25. "You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26. "To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities."
