YER 13
LUK 4:1-30

1SAM 15

1.   Samuel also said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the LORD. 2.   "Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt. 3.   ‘Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’" 4.   So Saul gathered the people together and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men of Judah. 5.   And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley. 6.   Then Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. 7.   And Saul attacked the Amalekites, from Havilah all the way to Shur, which is east of Egypt. 8.   He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. 9.   But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed. 10.   Now the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying, 11.   "I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments." And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the LORD all night. 12.   So when Samuel rose early in the morning to meet Saul, it was told Samuel, saying, "Saul went to Carmel, and indeed, he set up a monument for himself; and he has gone on around, passed by, and gone down to Gilgal." 13.   Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, "Blessed are you of the LORD! I have performed the commandment of the LORD." 14.   But Samuel said, "What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?" 15.   And Saul said, "They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed." 16.   Then Samuel said to Saul, "Be quiet! And I will tell you what the LORD said to me last night." And he said to him, "Speak on." 17.   So Samuel said, "When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the LORD anoint you king over Israel? 18.   "Now the LORD sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’ 19.   "Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the LORD?" 20.   And Saul said to Samuel, "But I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and gone on the mission on which the LORD sent me, and brought back Agag king of Amalek; I have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. 21.   "But the people took of the plunder, sheep and oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal." 22.   Then Samuel said: "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. 23.   For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king." 24.   Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25.   "Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD." 26.   But Samuel said to Saul, "I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel." 27.   And as Samuel turned around to go away, Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore. 28.   So Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you. 29.   "And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent." 30.   Then he said, "I have sinned; yet honor me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD your God." 31.   So Samuel turned back after Saul, and Saul worshiped the LORD. 32.   Then Samuel said, "Bring Agag king of the Amalekites here to me." So Agag came to him cautiously. And Agag said, "Surely the bitterness of death is past." 33.   But Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women." And Samuel hacked Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal. 34.   Then Samuel went to Ramah, and Saul went up to his house at Gibeah of Saul. 35.   And Samuel went no more to see Saul until the day of his death. Nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul, and the LORD regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.

YER 13

1.   Thus the LORD said to me: "Go and get yourself a linen sash, and put it around your waist, but do not put it in water." 2.   So I got a sash according to the word of the LORD, and put it around my waist. 3.   And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, 4.   "Take the sash that you acquired, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole in the rock." 5.   So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me. 6.   Now it came to pass after many days that the LORD said to me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the sash which I commanded you to hide there." 7.   Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the sash from the place where I had hidden it; and there was the sash, ruined. It was profitable for nothing. 8.   Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 9.   "Thus says the LORD: ‘In this manner I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. 10.   ‘This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing. 11.   ‘For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,’ says the LORD, ‘that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’ 12.   "Therefore you shall speak to them this word: ‘Thus says the LORD God of Israel: "Every bottle shall be filled with wine."’ And they will say to you, ‘Do we not certainly know that every bottle will be filled with wine?’ 13.   "Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land––even the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem––with drunkenness! 14.   "And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together," says the LORD. "I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them."’" 15.   Hear and give ear: Do not be proud, For the LORD has spoken. 16.   Give glory to the LORD your God Before He causes darkness, And before your feet stumble On the dark mountains, And while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death And makes it dense darkness. 17.   But if you will not hear it, My soul will weep in secret for your pride; My eyes will weep bitterly And run down with tears, Because the LORD’S flock has been taken captive. 18.   Say to the king and to the queen mother, "Humble yourselves; Sit down, For your rule shall collapse, the crown of your glory." 19.   The cities of the South shall be shut up, And no one shall open them ; Judah shall be carried away captive, all of it; It shall be wholly carried away captive. 20.   Lift up your eyes and see Those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given to you, Your beautiful sheep? 21.   What will you say when He punishes you? For you have taught them To be chieftains, to be head over you. Will not pangs seize you, Like a woman in labor? 22.   And if you say in your heart, "Why have these things come upon me?" For the greatness of your iniquity Your skirts have been uncovered, Your heels made bare. 23.   Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Then may you also do good who are accustomed to do evil. 24.   "Therefore I will scatter them like stubble That passes away by the wind of the wilderness. 25.   This is your lot, The portion of your measures from Me," says the LORD, "Because you have forgotten Me And trusted in falsehood. 26.   Therefore I will uncover your skirts over your face, That your shame may appear. 27.   I have seen your adulteries And your lustful neighings, The lewdness of your harlotry, Your abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! Will you still not be made clean?"

LUK 4 1-30

1.   Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2.   being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry. 3.   And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." 4.   But Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’" 5.   Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6.   And the devil said to Him, "All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. 7.   "Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours." 8.   And Jesus answered and said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’" 9.   Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. 10.   "For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,’ 11.   "and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’" 12.   And Jesus answered and said to him, "It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’" 13.   Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. 14.   Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. 15.   And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. 16.   So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17.   And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18.   "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19.   To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD." 20.   Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21.   And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." 22.   So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, "Is this not Joseph’s son?" 23.   He said to them, "You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.’" 24.   Then He said, "Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country. 25.   "But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; 26.   "but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27.   "And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." 28.   So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, 29.   and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. 30.   Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.
