King James Version

1SAM 19
YER 18
LUK 6:27-49

1SAM 19

1.   Now Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David; 2.   but Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted greatly in David. (19:2) So Jonathan told David, saying, "My father Saul seeks to kill you. Therefore please be on your guard until morning, and stay in a secret place and hide. 3.   "And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are , and I will speak with my father about you. Then what I observe, I will tell you." 4.   Thus Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father, and said to him, "Let not the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you. 5.   "For he took his life in his hands and killed the Philistine, and the LORD brought about a great deliverance for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?" 6.   So Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swore, " As the LORD lives, he shall not be killed." 7.   Then Jonathan called David, and Jonathan told him all these things. So Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as in times past. 8.   And there was war again; and David went out and fought with the Philistines, and struck them with a mighty blow, and they fled from him. 9.   Now the distressing spirit from the LORD came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing music with his hand. 10.   Then Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away from Saul’s presence; and he drove the spear into the wall. So David fled and escaped that night. 11.   Saul also sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and to kill him in the morning. And Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, "If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed." 12.   So Michal let David down through a window. And he went and fled and escaped. 13.   And Michal took an image and laid it in the bed, put a cover of goats’ hair for his head, and covered it with clothes. 14.   So when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, "He is sick." 15.   Then Saul sent the messengers back to see David, saying, "Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him." 16.   And when the messengers had come in, there was the image in the bed, with a cover of goats’ hair for his head. 17.   Then Saul said to Michal, "Why have you deceived me like this, and sent my enemy away, so that he has escaped?" And Michal answered Saul, "He said to me, ‘Let me go! Why should I kill you?’" 18.   So David fled and escaped, and went to Samuel at Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and stayed in Naioth. 19.   Now it was told Saul, saying, "Take note, David is at Naioth in Ramah!" 20.   Then Saul sent messengers to take David. And when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as leader over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. 21.   And when Saul was told, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. Then Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also. 22.   Then he also went to Ramah, and came to the great well that is at Sechu. So he asked, and said, "Where are Samuel and David?" And someone said, "Indeed they are at Naioth in Ramah." 23.   So he went there to Naioth in Ramah. Then the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on and prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah. 24.   And he also stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, " Is Saul also among the prophets?"

YER 18

1.   The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying: 2.   "Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words." 3.   Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. 4.   And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. 5.   Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: 6.   "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?" says the LORD. "Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel! 7.   "The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it , 8.   "if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. 9.   "And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it , 10.   "if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it. 11.   "Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I am fashioning a disaster and devising a plan against you. Return now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good."’" 12.   And they said, "That is hopeless! So we will walk according to our own plans, and we will every one obey the dictates of his evil heart." 13.   Therefore thus says the LORD: "Ask now among the Gentiles, Who has heard such things? The virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing. 14.   Will a man leave the snow water of Lebanon, Which comes from the rock of the field? Will the cold flowing waters be forsaken for strange waters? 15.   "Because My people have forgotten Me, They have burned incense to worthless idols. And they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways, From the ancient paths, To walk in pathways and not on a highway, 16.   To make their land desolate and a perpetual hissing; Everyone who passes by it will be astonished And shake his head. 17.   I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back and not the face In the day of their calamity." 18.   Then they said, "Come and let us devise plans against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us attack him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words." 19.   Give heed to me, O LORD, And listen to the voice of those who contend with me! 20.   Shall evil be repaid for good? For they have dug a pit for my life. Remember that I stood before You To speak good for them, To turn away Your wrath from them. 21.   Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, And pour out their blood By the force of the sword; Let their wives become widows And bereaved of their children. Let their men be put to death, Their young men be slain By the sword in battle. 22.   Let a cry be heard from their houses, When You bring a troop suddenly upon them; For they have dug a pit to take me, And hidden snares for my feet. 23.   Yet, LORD, You know all their counsel Which is against me, to slay me . Provide no atonement for their iniquity, Nor blot out their sin from Your sight; But let them be overthrown before You. Deal thus with them In the time of Your anger.

LUK 6 27-49

27.   "But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28.   "bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29.   "To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30.   "Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. 31.   "And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. 32.   "But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33.   "And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34.   "And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. 35.   "But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36.   "Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. 37.   "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38.   "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." 39.   And He spoke a parable to them: "Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? 40.   "A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. 41.   "And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? 42.   "Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye. 43.   "For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44.   "For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45.   "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. 46.   "But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do the things which I say? 47.   "Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48.   "He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49.   "But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great."
