King James Version

1SAM 21
YER 20
LUK 7:31-50

1SAM 21

1.   Now David came to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. And Ahimelech was afraid when he met David, and said to him, "Why are you alone, and no one is with you?" 2.   So David said to Ahimelech the priest, "The king has ordered me on some business, and said to me, ‘Do not let anyone know anything about the business on which I send you, or what I have commanded you.’ And I have directed my young men to such and such a place. 3.   "Now therefore, what have you on hand? Give me five loaves of bread in my hand, or whatever can be found." 4.   And the priest answered David and said, " There is no common bread on hand; but there is holy bread, if the young men have at least kept themselves from women." 5.   Then David answered the priest, and said to him, "Truly, women have been kept from us about three days since I came out. And the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in effect common, even though it was sanctified in the vessel this day." 6.   So the priest gave him holy bread ; for there was no bread there but the showbread which had been taken from before the LORD, in order to put hot bread in its place on the day when it was taken away. 7.   Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD. And his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chief of the herdsmen who belonged to Saul. 8.   And David said to Ahimelech, "Is there not here on hand a spear or a sword? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste." 9.   So the priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, there it is, wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take it . For there is no other except that one here." And David said, " There is none like it; give it to me." 10.   Then David arose and fled that day from before Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath. 11.   And the servants of Achish said to him, " Is this not David the king of the land? Did they not sing of him to one another in dances, saying: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands’?" 12.   Now David took these words to heart, and was very much afraid of Achish the king of Gath. 13.   So he changed his behavior before them, feigned madness in their hands, scratched on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva fall down on his beard. 14.   Then Achish said to his servants, "Look, you see the man is insane. Why have you brought him to me? 15.   "Have I need of madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?"

YER 20

1.   Now Pashhur the son of Immer, the priest who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. 2.   Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD. 3.   And it happened on the next day that Pashhur brought Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD has not called your name Pashhur, but Magor–Missabib. 4.   "For thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it . I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon and slay them with the sword. 5.   ‘Moreover I will deliver all the wealth of this city, all its produce, and all its precious things; all the treasures of the kings of Judah I will give into the hand of their enemies, who will plunder them, seize them, and carry them to Babylon. 6.   ‘And you, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house, shall go into captivity. You shall go to Babylon, and there you shall die, and be buried there, you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied lies.’" 7.   O LORD, You induced me, and I was persuaded; You are stronger than I, and have prevailed. I am in derision daily; Everyone mocks me. 8.   For when I spoke, I cried out; I shouted, "Violence and plunder!" Because the word of the LORD was made to me A reproach and a derision daily. 9.   Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name." But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not. 10.   For I heard many mocking: "Fear on every side!" "Report," they say , "and we will report it!" All my acquaintances watched for my stumbling, saying , "Perhaps he can be induced; Then we will prevail against him, And we will take our revenge on him." 11.   But the LORD is with me as a mighty, awesome One. Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper. Their everlasting confusion will never be forgotten. 12.   But, O LORD of hosts, You who test the righteous, And see the mind and heart, Let me see Your vengeance on them; For I have pleaded my cause before You. 13.   Sing to the LORD! Praise the LORD! For He has delivered the life of the poor From the hand of evildoers. 14.   Cursed be the day in which I was born! Let the day not be blessed in which my mother bore me! 15.   Let the man be cursed Who brought news to my father, saying, "A male child has been born to you!" Making him very glad. 16.   And let that man be like the cities Which the LORD overthrew, and did not relent; Let him hear the cry in the morning And the shouting at noon, 17.   Because he did not kill me from the womb, That my mother might have been my grave, And her womb always enlarged with me . 18.   Why did I come forth from the womb to see labor and sorrow, That my days should be consumed with shame?

LUK 7 31-50

31.   And the Lord said, "To what then shall I liken the men of this generation, and what are they like? 32.   "They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying: ‘We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not weep.’ 33.   "For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ 34.   "The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ 35.   "But wisdom is justified by all her children." 36.   Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. 37.   And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, 38.   and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. 39.   Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this , he spoke to himself, saying, "This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner." 40.   And Jesus answered and said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." So he said, "Teacher, say it." 41.   "There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42.   "And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?" 43.   Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have rightly judged." 44.   Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45.   "You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46.   "You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47.   "Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little." 48.   Then He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven." 49.   And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?" 50.   Then He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."
