YER 51:1-33
LUK 22:24-46

2SAM 24

1.   Again the anger of the LORD was aroused against Israel, and He moved David against them to say, "Go, number Israel and Judah." 2.   So the king said to Joab the commander of the army who was with him, "Now go throughout all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and count the people, that I may know the number of the people." 3.   And Joab said to the king, "Now may the LORD your God add to the people a hundred times more than there are, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it . But why does my lord the king desire this thing?" 4.   Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab and against the captains of the army. Therefore Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king to count the people of Israel. 5.   And they crossed over the Jordan and camped in Aroer, on the right side of the town which is in the midst of the ravine of Gad, and toward Jazer. 6.   Then they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtim Hodshi; they came to Dan Jaan and around to Sidon; 7.   and they came to the stronghold of Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and the Canaanites. Then they went out to South Judah as far as Beersheba. 8.   So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. 9.   Then Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to the king. And there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. 10.   And David’s heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, I pray, O LORD, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly." 11.   Now when David arose in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying, 12.   "Go and tell David, ‘Thus says the LORD: "I offer you three things ; choose one of them for yourself, that I may do it to you."’" 13.   So Gad came to David and told him; and he said to him, "Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or shall you flee three months before your enemies, while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ plague in your land? Now consider and see what answer I should take back to Him who sent me." 14.   And David said to Gad, "I am in great distress. Please let us fall into the hand of the LORD, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the hand of man." 15.   So the LORD sent a plague upon Israel from the morning till the appointed time. From Dan to Beersheba seventy thousand men of the people died. 16.   And when the angel stretched out His hand over Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD relented from the destruction, and said to the angel who was destroying the people, "It is enough; now restrain your hand." And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 17.   Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who was striking the people, and said, "Surely I have sinned, and I have done wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I pray, be against me and against my father’s house." 18.   And Gad came that day to David and said to him, "Go up, erect an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite." 19.   So David, according to the word of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded. 20.   Now Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming toward him. So Araunah went out and bowed before the king with his face to the ground. 21.   Then Araunah said, "Why has my lord the king come to his servant?" And David said, "To buy the threshing floor from you, to build an altar to the LORD, that the plague may be withdrawn from the people." 22.   Now Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take and offer up whatever seems good to him. Look, here are oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing implements and the yokes of the oxen for wood. 23.   "All these, O king, Araunah has given to the king." And Araunah said to the king, "May the LORD your God accept you." 24.   Then the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God with that which costs me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. 25.   And David built there an altar to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel.

YER 51 1-33

1.   Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, Against those who dwell in Leb Kamai, A destroying wind. 2.   And I will send winnowers to Babylon, Who shall winnow her and empty her land. For in the day of doom They shall be against her all around. 3.   Against her let the archer bend his bow, And lift himself up against her in his armor. Do not spare her young men; Utterly destroy all her army. 4.   Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, And those thrust through in her streets. 5.   For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, By his God, the LORD of hosts, Though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel." 6.   Flee from the midst of Babylon, And every one save his life! Do not be cut off in her iniquity, For this is the time of the LORD’S vengeance; He shall recompense her. 7.   Babylon was a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, That made all the earth drunk. The nations drank her wine; Therefore the nations are deranged. 8.   Babylon has suddenly fallen and been destroyed. Wail for her! Take balm for her pain; Perhaps she may be healed. 9.   We would have healed Babylon, But she is not healed. Forsake her, and let us go everyone to his own country; For her judgment reaches to heaven and is lifted up to the skies. 10.   The LORD has revealed our righteousness. Come and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God. 11.   Make the arrows bright! Gather the shields! The LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes. For His plan is against Babylon to destroy it, Because it is the vengeance of the LORD, The vengeance for His temple. 12.   Set up the standard on the walls of Babylon; Make the guard strong, Set up the watchmen, Prepare the ambushes. For the LORD has both devised and done What He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon. 13.   O you who dwell by many waters, Abundant in treasures, Your end has come, The measure of your covetousness. 14.   The LORD of hosts has sworn by Himself: "Surely I will fill you with men, as with locusts, And they shall lift up a shout against you." 15.   He has made the earth by His power; He has established the world by His wisdom, And stretched out the heaven by His understanding. 16.   When He utters His voice–– There is a multitude of waters in the heavens: "He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightnings for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries." 17.   Everyone is dull–hearted, without knowledge; Every metalsmith is put to shame by the carved image; For his molded image is falsehood, And there is no breath in them. 18.   They are futile, a work of errors; In the time of their punishment they shall perish. 19.   The Portion of Jacob is not like them, For He is the Maker of all things; And Israel is the tribe of His inheritance. The LORD of hosts is His name. 20.   "You are My battle–ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces; With you I will destroy kingdoms; 21.   With you I will break in pieces the horse and its rider; With you I will break in pieces the chariot and its rider; 22.   With you also I will break in pieces man and woman; With you I will break in pieces old and young; With you I will break in pieces the young man and the maiden; 23.   With you also I will break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; With you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; And with you I will break in pieces governors and rulers. 24.   "And I will repay Babylon And all the inhabitants of Chaldea For all the evil they have done In Zion in your sight," says the LORD. 25.   "Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, Who destroys all the earth," says the LORD. "And I will stretch out My hand against you, Roll you down from the rocks, And make you a burnt mountain. 26.   They shall not take from you a stone for a corner Nor a stone for a foundation, But you shall be desolate forever," says the LORD. 27.   Set up a banner in the land, Blow the trumpet among the nations! Prepare the nations against her, Call the kingdoms together against her: Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a general against her; Cause the horses to come up like the bristling locusts. 28.   Prepare against her the nations, With the kings of the Medes, Its governors and all its rulers, All the land of his dominion. 29.   And the land will tremble and sorrow; For every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, To make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitant. 30.   The mighty men of Babylon have ceased fighting, They have remained in their strongholds; Their might has failed, They became like women; They have burned her dwelling places, The bars of her gate are broken. 31.   One runner will run to meet another, And one messenger to meet another, To show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on all sides; 32.   The passages are blocked, The reeds they have burned with fire, And the men of war are terrified. 33.   For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor When it is time to thresh her; Yet a little while And the time of her harvest will come."

LUK 22 24-46

24.   Now there was also a dispute among them, as to which of them should be considered the greatest. 25.   And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ 26.   "But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. 27.   "For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. 28.   "But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. 29.   "And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, 30.   "that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel." 31.   And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32.   "But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me , strengthen your brethren." 33.   But he said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death." 34.   Then He said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me." 35.   And He said to them, "When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?" So they said, "Nothing." 36.   Then He said to them, "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it , and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37.   "For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end." 38.   So they said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." 39.   Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. 40.   When He came to the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation." 41.   And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42.   saying, "Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done." 43.   Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 44.   And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 45.   When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. 46.   Then He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation."
