King James Version
1. And God spoke all these words, saying: 2. "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3. "You shall have no other gods before Me. 4. "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5. you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6. but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. 7. "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. 8. "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10. but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. 12. "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you. 13. "You shall not murder. 14. "You shall not commit adultery. 15. "You shall not steal. 16. "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17. "You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s." 18. Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it , they trembled and stood afar off. 19. Then they said to Moses, "You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die." 20. And Moses said to the people, "Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin." 21. So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was . 22. Then the LORD said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘You have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. 23. ‘You shall not make anything to be with Me––gods of silver or gods of gold you shall not make for yourselves. 24. ‘An altar of earth you shall make for Me, and you shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record My name I will come to you, and I will bless you. 25. ‘And if you make Me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stone; for if you use your tool on it, you have profaned it. 26. ‘Nor shall you go up by steps to My altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed on it.’
1. < A Psalm of David.>> In the LORD I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain"? 2. For look! The wicked bend their bow, They make ready their arrow on the string, That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart. 3. If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do? 4. The LORD is in His holy temple, The LORD’S throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. 5. The LORD tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates. 6. Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind Shall be the portion of their cup. 7. For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.
1. <> Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases! For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. 2. They speak idly everyone with his neighbor; With flattering lips and a double heart they speak. 3. May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, And the tongue that speaks proud things, 4. Who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; Who is lord over us?" 5. "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise," says the LORD; "I will set him in the safety for which he yearns." 6. The words of the LORD are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times. 7. You shall keep them, O LORD, You shall preserve them from this generation forever. 8. The wicked prowl on every side, When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.
1. <> How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? 2. How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? 3. Consider and hear me, O LORD my God; Enlighten my eyes, Lest I sleep the sleep of death; 4. Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed against him"; Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved. 5. But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. 6. I will sing to the LORD, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.
1. < A Psalm of David.>> The fool has said in his heart, " There is no God." They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. 2. The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. 3. They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. 4. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the LORD? 5. There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous. 6. You shame the counsel of the poor, But the LORD is his refuge. 7. Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.
1. <> LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? 0. 2He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; 3. He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend; 4. In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honors those who fear the LORD; He who swears to his own hurt and does not change; 5. He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.
1. <> Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. 0. 2 O my soul , you have said to the LORD, "You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You." 3. As for the saints who are on the earth, "They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight." 4. Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god ; Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer, Nor take up their names on my lips. 5. O LORD, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot. 6. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places ; Yes, I have a good inheritance. 7. I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. 8. I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. 9. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. 10. For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 11. You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
1. <> Hear a just cause, O LORD, Attend to my cry; Give ear to my prayer which is not from deceitful lips. 0. 2Let my vindication come from Your presence; Let Your eyes look on the things that are upright. 3. You have tested my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me and have found nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. 4. Concerning the works of men, By the word of Your lips, I have kept away from the paths of the destroyer. 5. Uphold my steps in Your paths, That my footsteps may not slip. 6. I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech. 7. Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You From those who rise up against them . 8. Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, 9. From the wicked who oppress me, From my deadly enemies who surround me. 10. They have closed up their fat hearts ; With their mouths they speak proudly. 11. They have now surrounded us in our steps; They have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth, 12. As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a young lion lurking in secret places. 13. Arise, O LORD, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword, 14. With Your hand from men, O LORD, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes. 15. As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.
9. "And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him 10. "and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him favor and wisdom in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. 11. "Now a famine and great trouble came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and our fathers found no sustenance. 12. "But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first. 13. "And the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s family became known to the Pharaoh. 14. "Then Joseph sent and called his father Jacob and all his relatives to him , seventy–five people. 15. "So Jacob went down to Egypt; and he died, he and our fathers. 16. "And they were carried back to Shechem and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem. 17. "But when the time of the promise drew near which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt 18. "till another king arose who did not know Joseph. 19. "This man dealt treacherously with our people, and oppressed our forefathers, making them expose their babies, so that they might not live. 20. "At this time Moses was born, and was well pleasing to God; and he was brought up in his father’s house for three months. 21. "But when he was set out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him away and brought him up as her own son. 22. "And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds. 23. "Now when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel. 24. "And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended and avenged him who was oppressed, and struck down the Egyptian. 25. "For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand. 26. "And the next day he appeared to two of them as they were fighting, and tried to reconcile them, saying, ‘Men, you are brethren; why do you wrong one another?’ 27. "But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us? 28. ‘Do you want to kill me as you did the Egyptian yesterday?’ 29. "Then, at this saying, Moses fled and became a dweller in the land of Midian, where he had two sons. 30. "And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai. 31. "When Moses saw it , he marveled at the sight; and as he drew near to observe, the voice of the Lord came to him, 32. " saying , ‘I am the God of your fathers––the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ And Moses trembled and dared not look. 33. ‘Then the LORD said to him, "Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground. 34. "I have surely seen the oppression of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt."’
