KEJ 47
AYB 21
MAT 25:1-30

KEJ 47

1.   Then Joseph went and told Pharaoh, and said, "My father and my brothers, their flocks and their herds and all that they possess, have come from the land of Canaan; and indeed they are in the land of Goshen." 2.   And he took five men from among his brothers and presented them to Pharaoh. 3.   Then Pharaoh said to his brothers, "What is your occupation?" And they said to Pharaoh, "Your servants are shepherds, both we and also our fathers." 4.   And they said to Pharaoh, "We have come to dwell in the land, because your servants have no pasture for their flocks, for the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen." 5.   Then Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, "Your father and your brothers have come to you. 6.   "The land of Egypt is before you. Have your father and brothers dwell in the best of the land; let them dwell in the land of Goshen. And if you know any competent men among them, then make them chief herdsmen over my livestock." 7.   Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and set him before Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh. 8.   Pharaoh said to Jacob, "How old are you?" 9.   And Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage." 10.   So Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh. 11.   And Joseph situated his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded. 12.   Then Joseph provided his father, his brothers, and all his father’s household with bread, according to the number in their families. 13.   Now there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine. 14.   And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house. 15.   So when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, "Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For the money has failed." 16.   Then Joseph said, "Give your livestock, and I will give you bread for your livestock, if the money is gone." 17.   So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, the flocks, the cattle of the herds, and for the donkeys. Thus he fed them with bread in exchange for all their livestock that year. 18.   When that year had ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, "We will not hide from my lord that our money is gone; my lord also has our herds of livestock. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our lands. 19.   "Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants of Pharaoh; give us seed, that we may live and not die, that the land may not be desolate." 20.   Then Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh’s. 21.   And as for the people, he moved them into the cities, from one end of the borders of Egypt to the other end. 22.   Only the land of the priests he did not buy; for the priests had rations allotted to them by Pharaoh, and they ate their rations which Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their lands. 23.   Then Joseph said to the people, "Indeed I have bought you and your land this day for Pharaoh. Look, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land. 24.   "And it shall come to pass in the harvest that you shall give one–fifth to Pharaoh. Four–fifths shall be your own, as seed for the field and for your food, for those of your households and as food for your little ones." 25.   So they said, "You have saved our lives; let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants." 26.   And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have one–fifth, except for the land of the priests only, which did not become Pharaoh’s. 27.   So Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions there and grew and multiplied exceedingly. 28.   And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the length of Jacob’s life was one hundred and forty–seven years. 29.   When the time drew near that Israel must die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, "Now if I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Please do not bury me in Egypt, 30.   "but let me lie with my fathers; you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burial place." And he said, "I will do as you have said." 31.   Then he said, "Swear to me." And he swore to him. So Israel bowed himself on the head of the bed.

AYB 21

1.   Then Job answered and said: 2.   "Listen carefully to my speech, And let this be your consolation. 3.   Bear with me that I may speak, And after I have spoken, keep mocking. 4.   "As for me, is my complaint against man? And if it were , why should I not be impatient? 5.   Look at me and be astonished; Put your hand over your mouth. 6.   Even when I remember I am terrified, And trembling takes hold of my flesh. 7.   Why do the wicked live and become old, Yes, become mighty in power? 8.   Their descendants are established with them in their sight, And their offspring before their eyes. 9.   Their houses are safe from fear, Neither is the rod of God upon them. 10.   Their bull breeds without failure; Their cow calves without miscarriage. 11.   They send forth their little ones like a flock, And their children dance. 12.   They sing to the tambourine and harp, And rejoice to the sound of the flute. 13.   They spend their days in wealth, And in a moment go down to the grave. 14.   Yet they say to God, ‘Depart from us, For we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways. 15.   Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him? And what profit do we have if we pray to Him?’ 16.   Indeed their prosperity is not in their hand; The counsel of the wicked is far from me. 17.   "How often is the lamp of the wicked put out? How often does their destruction come upon them, The sorrows God distributes in His anger? 18.   They are like straw before the wind, And like chaff that a storm carries away. 19.   They say , ‘God lays up one’s iniquity for his children’; Let Him recompense him, that he may know it . 20.   Let his eyes see his destruction, And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty. 21.   For what does he care about his household after him, When the number of his months is cut in half? 22.   "Can anyone teach God knowledge, Since He judges those on high? 23.   One dies in his full strength, Being wholly at ease and secure; 24.   His pails are full of milk, And the marrow of his bones is moist. 25.   Another man dies in the bitterness of his soul, Never having eaten with pleasure. 26.   They lie down alike in the dust, And worms cover them. 27.   "Look, I know your thoughts, And the schemes with which you would wrong me. 28.   For you say, ‘Where is the house of the prince? And where is the tent, The dwelling place of the wicked?’ 29.   Have you not asked those who travel the road? And do you not know their signs? 30.   For the wicked are reserved for the day of doom; They shall be brought out on the day of wrath. 31.   Who condemns his way to his face? And who repays him for what he has done? 32.   Yet he shall be brought to the grave, And a vigil kept over the tomb. 33.   The clods of the valley shall be sweet to him; Everyone shall follow him, As countless have gone before him. 34.   How then can you comfort me with empty words, Since falsehood remains in your answers?"

MAT 25 1-30

1.   "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2.   "Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3.   "Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4.   "but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5.   "But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6.   "And at midnight a cry was heard : ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7.   "Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8.   "And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9.   "But the wise answered, saying, ‘ No , lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10.   "And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11.   "Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12.   "But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13.   "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. 14.   "For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15.   "And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16.   "Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17.   "And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18.   "But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money. 19.   "After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20.   "So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’ 21.   "His lord said to him, ‘Well done , good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 22.   "He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ 23.   "His lord said to him, ‘Well done , good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 24.   "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25.   ‘And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ 26.   "But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27.   ‘So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28.   ‘Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. 29.   ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30.   ‘And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
