BIL 22 36-41

36.   Now when Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the city of Moab, which is on the border at the Arnon, the boundary of the territory. 37.   Then Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not earnestly send to you, calling for you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able to honor you?" 38.   And Balaam said to Balak, "Look, I have come to you! Now, have I any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that I must speak." 39.   So Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kirjath Huzoth. 40.   Then Balak offered oxen and sheep, and he sent some to Balaam and to the princes who were with him. 41.   So it was the next day, that Balak took Balaam and brought him up to the high places of Baal, that from there he might observe the extent of the people.

BIL 23 1-30

1.   Then Balaam said to Balak, "Build seven altars for me here, and prepare for me here seven bulls and seven rams." 2.   And Balak did just as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on each altar. 3.   Then Balaam said to Balak, "Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go; perhaps the LORD will come to meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you." So he went to a desolate height. 4.   And God met Balaam, and he said to Him, "I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered on each altar a bull and a ram." 5.   Then the LORD put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak." 6.   So he returned to him, and there he was, standing by his burnt offering, he and all the princes of Moab. 7.   And he took up his oracle and said: "Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, From the mountains of the east. ‘Come, curse Jacob for me, And come, denounce Israel!’ 8.   "How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how shall I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced? 9.   For from the top of the rocks I see him, And from the hills I behold him; There! A people dwelling alone, Not reckoning itself among the nations. 10.   "Who can count the dust of Jacob, Or number one–fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, And let my end be like his!" 11.   Then Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and look, you have blessed them bountifully!" 12.   So he answered and said, "Must I not take heed to speak what the LORD has put in my mouth?" 13.   Then Balak said to him, "Please come with me to another place from which you may see them; you shall see only the outer part of them, and shall not see them all; curse them for me from there." 14.   So he brought him to the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar. 15.   And he said to Balak, "Stand here by your burnt offering while I meet the LORD over there." 16.   Then the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, "Go back to Balak, and thus you shall speak." 17.   So he came to him, and there he was, standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab were with him. And Balak said to him, "What has the LORD spoken?" 18.   Then he took up his oracle and said: "Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, son of Zippor! 19.   "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? 20.   Behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it. 21.   "He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, Nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The LORD his God is with him, And the shout of a King is among them. 22.   God brings them out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox. 23.   "For there is no sorcery against Jacob, Nor any divination against Israel. It now must be said of Jacob And of Israel, ‘Oh, what God has done!’ 24.   Look, a people rises like a lioness, And lifts itself up like a lion; It shall not lie down until it devours the prey, And drinks the blood of the slain." 25.   Then Balak said to Balaam, "Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all!" 26.   So Balaam answered and said to Balak, "Did I not tell you, saying, ‘All that the LORD speaks, that I must do’?" 27.   Then Balak said to Balaam, "Please come, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there." 28.   So Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, that overlooks the wasteland. 29.   Then Balaam said to Balak, "Build for me here seven altars, and prepare for me here seven bulls and seven rams." 30.   And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on every altar.

BIL 24 1-9

1.   Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not go as at other times, to seek to use sorcery, but he set his face toward the wilderness. 2.   And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him. 3.   Then he took up his oracle and said: "The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, The utterance of the man whose eyes are opened, 4.   The utterance of him who hears the words of God, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Who falls down, with eyes wide open: 5.   "How lovely are your tents, O Jacob! Your dwellings, O Israel! 6.   Like valleys that stretch out, Like gardens by the riverside, Like aloes planted by the LORD, Like cedars beside the waters. 7.   He shall pour water from his buckets, And his seed shall be in many waters. "His king shall be higher than Agag, And his kingdom shall be exalted. 8.   "God brings him out of Egypt; He has strength like a wild ox; He shall consume the nations, his enemies; He shall break their bones And pierce them with his arrows. 9.   ‘He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?’ "Blessed is he who blesses you, And cursed is he who curses you."

AMS 4

1.   Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; 2.   For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law. 3.   When I was my father’s son, Tender and the only one in the sight of my mother, 4.   He also taught me, and said to me: "Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. 5.   Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. 6.   Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. 7.   Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. 8.   Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you embrace her. 9.   She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will deliver to you." 10.   Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, And the years of your life will be many. 11.   I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. 12.   When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stumble. 13.   Take firm hold of instruction, do not let go; Keep her, for she is your life. 14.   Do not enter the path of the wicked, And do not walk in the way of evil. 15.   Avoid it, do not travel on it; Turn away from it and pass on. 16.   For they do not sleep unless they have done evil; And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall. 17.   For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence. 18.   But the path of the just is like the shining sun, That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. 19.   The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble. 20.   My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21.   Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22.   For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. 23.   Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. 24.   Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you. 25.   Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. 26.   Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. 27.   Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.

AMS 5

1.   My son, pay attention to my wisdom; Lend your ear to my understanding, 2.   That you may preserve discretion, And your lips may keep knowledge. 3.   For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil; 4.   But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two–edged sword. 5.   Her feet go down to death, Her steps lay hold of hell. 6.   Lest you ponder her path of life––Her ways are unstable; You do not know them . 7.   Therefore hear me now, my children, And do not depart from the words of my mouth. 8.   Remove your way far from her, And do not go near the door of her house, 9.   Lest you give your honor to others, And your years to the cruel one ; 10.   Lest aliens be filled with your wealth, And your labors go to the house of a foreigner; 11.   And you mourn at last, When your flesh and your body are consumed, 12.   And say: "How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised correction! 13.   I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me! 14.   I was on the verge of total ruin, In the midst of the assembly and congregation." 15.   Drink water from your own cistern, And running water from your own well. 16.   Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, Streams of water in the streets? 17.   Let them be only your own, And not for strangers with you. 18.   Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice with the wife of your youth. 19.   As a loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; And always be enraptured with her love. 20.   For why should you, my son, be enraptured by an immoral woman, And be embraced in the arms of a seductress? 21.   For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, And He ponders all his paths. 22.   His own iniquities entrap the wicked man , And he is caught in the cords of his sin. 23.   He shall die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

1KOR 12

1.   Now concerning spiritual gifts , brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2.   You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3.   Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. 4.   There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5.   There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6.   And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7.   But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all : 8.   for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9.   to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10.   to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11.   But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 12.   For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13.   For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body––whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free––and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. 14.   For in fact the body is not one member but many. 15.   If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? 16.   And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body," is it therefore not of the body? 17.   If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18.   But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19.   And if they were all one member, where would the body be ? 20.   But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. 21.   And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; nor again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you." 22.   No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 23.   And those members of the body which we think to be less honorable, on these we bestow greater honor; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, 24.   but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25.   that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26.   And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it ; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it . 27.   Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28.   And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29.   Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30.   Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31.   But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.
